Hi all.
Well its finally happening I am moving to Ocala within the next month.

Give me the low down on the local fish stores and stuff.

TIA

Congrats on the move.. I know alot about Ocala, but nothing about the LFS's there. Hopefully someone will chime in.

Don't know anything about Ocala, it is a ways away. Might have better luck with the Tampa Bay Reef Club for info on LFS's up there...

One store called tanks alot. Kind of pricey imo. That's all I know. Drive to orlando which is about an hour and a half and you will find much better deals, corals, and fish.

I knew there were a bunch of Orlando stores etc. I did ot know it was an hour and a half drive.
Not the end of the world. It will keep me from spending all my money ;)

Head up the road to Gainesville. Ocean Exotics is on Archer Road west of I-75. Should be 30-40 min from you depending on where in Ocala you're located.

Jay, If you have not been in to Tanks a lot in a while come take a look again. The prices are alot more competitive. We have been getting in alot of really nice stuff. It's a lot closer to you than orlando or gainsville.

Plus, the store has doubled in size. Come in and see me. My name is Bill. I'll take care of anyone who comes in and says they saw this post. And anyone else in Ocala or near by, come in and say hi. See what you think and give us feedback, please. We can't grow as a business without it. Plus we want to help as many people in the hobby as possible.

Come check it out!!!! We just got a shipment of really nice corals and fish including some awesome cultured acros, live rock and a ton of zoos.

Whats the address? I may stop by this weekend. Gonna go check out Ocean Exotics also.

Thanks everyone.

When is the next club meeting? Maybe I should go to the club web site :)

3602 Ne 8th place, corner of 36th ave and SR 40(silver springs blvd.) across 36th from publix. Come on in. I'll be there today.

Yea I'll stop by there again. Maybe I'll swing by there in a week or two with a friend of mine. Have you guys got any more of a selection on sps?

Yes! Even though you will be a couple hours away you finally made it here. Can't wait to see you again and let me know if you need any help.

Aquatropics

Aquatropics

Aquatropics is the finest shop for corals in Florida that I have ever seen. In Gainsville at 2100SW 34th St. You could put all the corals from the Orlando shops in just one of their tanks.. Far and away better than anything in Tampa. Quality Like ReeferMaddness on the net. Their 800 gal reef display tank is mind blowing Actual 3' high 8' long reefs (2) with walls covered in corals.

If you do stop out I'm there mon thru fri for the next two weeks. I actually have some weekends off. I'd like to have the chance to talk to you personally.

As for sps, yes we do have a pretty good selection. I have a few pieces picked out for frags. But I have others for sale. We have a 110xh that has some choice pieces some of which are for sale. Others are stock for propagation.

As for the others we have a 1000 gallon coral vat that has plenty to choose from. It's viewed from above and it's 10' long by 6' wide and 2' deep. Lots of soft corals, zoos and clams. As well as sps. Come take a look.

Tanks A Lot (Ocala) really helped me out when I had a ballast go bad and needed a new lighting system quickly - very friendly and well informed staff!!

Ocean Exotics (Gainesville) IMHumble O is much better than Aquatropics - I lived in G'ville for 7 years and found Ocean Exotics to have healthier fish stock and cleaner corals - very informed staff with honest opinions about what would work or not work in your set up. Deliveries are usually on Tues.

Aquatropics (Gainesville) had a bigger selection of dry goods but fish were not always quarantineed and some of their rock had some algea outbreaks - also with high turn over of college student staff some advice I had received was questionable - can't go wrong by asking the owner Tom (?) he is usually there and very helpful

also recently heard that Pet Safari (Ocala) (off 40) had improved - my last visit there was years ago and at that time they were selling a 10 gal Nemo set up with plastic stuff and their display tank was limited to one tank with recovering corals - I heard that they have hired someone that has improved their set ups and selection.

Good luck with your move
Keri
