Moving

I finally got my tank set up and it looks great. Been up and running for about three or four months now and I love it.

So of course I decide to buy a new house and will be moving in a month.

Curious if this plan would work at the new place:

1. Set up RO/DI filters
2. Set up QT
3. Transport water from my DT to the QT
4. Move fish from DT to QT
5. With remaining water from DT move live rock
6. Break down tank, move what water I can in carry jugs/containers
7. Set up DT in new place
8. Fill tank with what water I am able to move
9. Add rocks back in
10. Use new RO/DI saltwater mix to top off tank and get equipment up and running


If that works, how long would I have to wait for the tank to stabilize before moving my fish back into the tank?

Any suggestions/tips/guidance on making this move successful?

That's basically how I have done it every time except without QT tanks. I just put everything in buckets and dump it back in the original tank. Gotta be pretty speedy that way though, so I think the QT tanks is a good way to go.

FYI... You do not need to use your old water at all and can use all new water to give it a nice "reset" back to "best" parameters..
There is little to no benefit in using your old water.. Most of the bacteria is surface dwelling on the rock/sand,etc.. and little is free floating in the water column..
But you certainly can use it if you want..

You can be filling up a new trash barrel with RO/DI at the new place while you're making trips back and forth.
