MP10 vs MP40 - motor loudness

Really...
1. Do you believe both are working properly?
2. Are they the same age?
3. Is this the same when they ramp up and down?

my mp10 is significantly louder then my mp40. and it's a different sound as well. I compare it to my truck and my gf's Prius. when I press the gas to accelerate the engine makes a nice prrr sound. the Prius on the other hand, press on that gas to accelerate and the puny engine sounds like its over working and about to explode!

I have both and only hear them when they run in the EcoSmart modes...and that's only if the TV is off...both are quiet IMO.

I have both on tanks that are across from each other. I think they are about the same in the noise level. I think they are pretty quiet. It is my skimmer and overflow that make more noise.

I had a first generation MP40 about 3-4 years ago but it was on a huge tank in a much noisier tank room than my living room now.
I had an MP10 on this current tank in this current living room and its' motor was "too" loud for me, so I sold it.
I just bought a second hand second generation MP40 on here.

You guys were right...this second hand, second generation MP40 is quieter than my recently sold MP10. It leaves NO dead spots in my barebottom 40g breeder.
It does still whine @ ~66dB at full speed. For frame of reference my skimmer has a relatively quiet pump and it runs ~67dB.
Now the whine from the MP40, though 1dB lower, is more noticeable than my skimmer's pump.

My mp10 is louder then my MP40 on my BB 40 breeder. The mp10 is around 90% power and the mp 40 is at only 50% but equal flow.

I agree with the above. Run 2 40's at 50% if you can spare extra cost. It's easyer on the motors and they last you longer

I will say though I like the much smaller footprint of the MP 10. The mp40 is kinda big in a 40 breeder to me. Just somthing to think about.
"size matters" :)

Currently, I have neither but am looking to add one. My 4 foot 120gal has plenty of flow, but no wave-like flow. I assume that adding an MP10 would be unnoticed and a waste of money. Correct? Is the MP40 the way to go?
