Mp10?

I'm not getting the flow I want out of my pair of K 2's and am toying with the idea of an MP10.

Anyone out there have one of these, and if so would it be appropriate as a solo powerhead in a 37g? It's 30"x22"Tx12"D

In a 37 gallon you may want some other kind of flow as well (just for some random turbulence), like from a return line or something. These things really move some freakin water though. I have one on my 20 gallon. It replaced three powerheads and does it all at 25% power to boot. Highly recommend. It seems that there are just no dead spots in my tank anymore because of this thing, and my skimmer works even better because it keeps all the junk in the water column. Hope this helps.

Thx Smog. Yea I have a HOB Skimmer and a HOB Mech. filter that I only use to house media, so there is some addt'l flow. I'm staring at my shopping cart but can't seem to push checkout lol. $200 is steep for a powerhead but I guess it's all relative and it's more than just a powerhead.

i would skip the mp10, and go with the mp20. my 40 breeder has only the return and mp20, and i feel like there could be more flow sometimes. you can also upgrade the mp20 to a mp40w when you get a bigger tank :)

they do feel expensive, but the flow is really amazing, and the pump takes up so little room in the tank. sometimes you can find 10% off at different places, and save a bit too..

good luck!!

i know it sounds expensive...but i've seen the difference and if I could afford it, i'd have them right now.

Thx folks.

Kat I can't afford it but there's room on the card lol. I'm going to hold off. I have a Koral nano that maybe I will hide behind the stack and use for a cpl of deadspots dwn on bottom.

I'd 100% recommend it. Besides my ~400GPH in returns, the MP10 is the only powerhead in my tank supporting SPS (and mind you, only at 3/4 power). Here's an interesting review of the MP10 showing that it pushes 20% more water than advertised.

I hate to say it, but IMO the MP10 kinda made the MP20 obsolete. JMO, hope this helps! :)

Ordered! These are fixed correct..meaning you cannot aim them like the K's?

Correct, you can't aim them, but for most uses, its not necessary. The pattern of flow they put out has such a wide encompassing flow it covers a very broad range.

Ha! You and G will be by help tune the thing in rt? Comes in tomorrow ...wifey out of town for work and the kids WILL be in bed by 730

So I have this up and running on lagoon random atm. The manual says to check with aquarium manfctr, and verify that it's seams will hold when making waves. So I called Marineland and they told me they havent any wave making machines that they test tanks with. I tried to tell her her simply what I was trying to fihure out but it was ano-go lol.

So...I'm going to dial power down and start slowly and see what happens.

You shouldn't have any problems with a single MP10 in a tank, particularly with it set to lagoon mode. Reef Crest mode varies the speed greatly, where lagoon mode is pretty constant. So, I wouldn't worry about breaking the seams on your tank...

Or, maybe I should be concerned about running two MP40s in my 90g tank in lagoon mode at 100%! :fun4:

It's fine during lagoon setting...I'm talking about actually trying to make a wave so i can get good alternate flow.

IMO you have absolutely nothing to worry about... it'd take a lot of MP10's to damage your aquarium.

PS- Glad I helped convince you to get it. Betcha didn't think it'd be as powerful as it is, did you? ;)
