Mp10's for 135?

I would like to finally get the Vortech's. I am thinking of getting 2 Mp10's for my main display. It is only an LPS/Soft dominated tank. No SPS in it now or plans of SPS. I love movement in corals. I do know that you can dial it down if it's too much flow BUT my 2 Koralia 3's do a good job on keeping things moving and only run at 800gph. Mp10's max out at around 1500 so I'm thinking that should be plenty and also with 2 of them it should be more than enough with my aquarium. What does everyone else think? I just need some ideas before I blow $400 on 2 pumps...lol. Better than $800 I guess.:lmao:

I just (10 minutes ago) ordered an MP10 Ecosmart from TB Aquatics (even gave me the expired pre-sale price of $199, but had to ask) for my 20g long - I say do it!

By the way, if you do order the newer wireless-driver models, you can sync them together and have some neat flow patterns. If you are flush with money in the future you could add a third or fourth too! Seriously though, not sure if the MP10's would be quite enough in a 135 (72"?), even if there are 2 - maybe someone will chime in with more experience.....

Boy, I don't know...I know I was running for a few days with one MP40w (3200 gph), and though it kept the water in the tank moving it certainly wasn't a great amount of flow, and that's on a 90g tank. The MP10 is supposedly rated for tanks of 50g or less, which seems about right.

All that said, I would probably either buy one MP40 now and continue to run with one of your Koralias, or you could probably get by with an MP40 and an MP10.

The dimensions are 72"x18x24. I also have two 1 inch return nozzles from a Mag9.5 from my sump if that helps put in some flow calculations. I would love to get an MP40 but I don't think I ever could drop that amount on a powerhead, unless I was rich...lol. Or at least not for another couple years.

you can get an mp40 for around the same price as 2 mp10. I have an mp10 in my 25 gal nano and if it werent for the duncan i have in there i would want more flow.

Yeah, I know I could get two but I'll spend the $400 for two but not one, I admit I am a bit cheap with that. But on a $300 week paycheck with bills and a new baby. Money is tighter than ever. We all know that!

I run one mp40es on my 120 and it works awesome. I only run it around 70%

MP10's actually push around 2,000GPH, more than advertised. How thick is the glass on your 135? MP10's can only hold up to 3/8''.

Yeah I know how the money thing goes. I have 2 little girls and ALOT of hobbies. Not to mention we are looking to buy a new home. IMO you will get alot more bang for your buck getting the mp40. I know it seems like alot of money but they are incredible. Check out the for sale forums there are alot of deals to be had!

Ah, Johnny C you are on to something. My glass is 1/2" thick. Maybe the one Mp20 and a Koralia 3 for now. Would the Mp40w cover the entire tank?

Bummer... the MP10's would have otherwise worked awesome. IMO, save up and buy an MP40, it'll be worth the wait.

Yeah, one MP40 might be enough - I saw a few gen2's recently in the used hardware classified section here the last couple of days in the $350 range.

Koralia 4's are much more reasonable and I see a $76 dollar price for 6045 Tunze right now, I know nothing about the Octopus high flow powerheads but with 3000gph for less than $50 they have my interest.

The (obvious?) advantage the Vortech products have over those options is controllability. When you price out a similar-flow controllable Tunze or Koralia it's a similar price/performance ratio.

IMHO the only way to really get comparable performance for less money is to buy a DC pump (Tunze) and DIY a controller, or buy used.

yup, but controllability comes at a very dear price. Though the Koralia's are 12v and for about $10 you could add in a rheastat.
