MP20 stalling problem

I have an ECOtech mP20 that is about 4-5 months old. Yesterday i started having problems with the controller turning off. If i removed the power and restarted it the pump would run for a few minutes then the controller would turn off again. I thought that the wetside might be jammed so i took it out and cleaned the unit and put it back in now i am getting constant stall indications on the controller(red/green flashing), and the wetside does not run at all. I have tried calibrating the dry side a few times to see if that would clear it but am having no luck.

Any one have any suggestion on how to clear this up.
 
I had the same issue last week. Ecotech suggested I send it in which I did. I got it back yesterday and it's working fine now. Very fast turnaround from these guys. I didn't get an answer yet on what was actually replaced.
 
Definitely sounds like a wetside problem. Please contact us at the info below (phone or email). If we're able to identify exactly what parts are the culprit then we can just send them out, otherwise we'd prefer that you send the pump in so that we can go over the whole thing.
 
My 4-5 month old mp20 is having this same exact problem today. It keeps shutting off and will only run for a few minutes once I turn it back on again.
 
Same problem with an MP20 also and EcoTech replaced the prop, bushing and washer. So far it's been running well.

Funny how this seems to affect the MP20s but the wetside is universal for the MP40 as well.
 
Same problem here except my power supply loses power. Very faint light can be seen. I unplug the supply from the controller and plug it back in and it runs fine for a few days and then does it all over again.

Im in the same boat. My pump does the same stall out and then does the dim light thing as well. I contacted Ecotech in hopes of getting a solution.
 
I have to say Eco tech was good about fixing the pump. I mailed them the pump, they replaced some bearings and mailed it back with no charge. If you haven't contact them.
 
They did the same for my pump (bearings, prop) after I sent it back the 2nd time. What I find interesting is that this is happening to mostly MP20 pumps. I did not think it was anything to do with the wet end since I tried to trouble shoot the problem even before I sent the pump back the 1st time. I have four MP40s on other tanks and I tried swapping out with a 2 month old wet end and the problem still persisted. But the pump has been running fine since I got it back from Steve at EcoTech, go figure.
 
I have an MP20 with the same issues with it powering it's self off if i need to turn off the pump for tank maintenance. The unit is about 6 month old and I soak it in vinegar for cleaning every 3 month when I scrub down the wet side.

Is there anyway to resolve this without sending the unit in? It's my only pump in the tank other than a small return from the sump.
 
Thanks Tim I will when I get back in town. So far the tank sitter says everything is working fine "Keeping finger crossed"
 
I got my pump back today and put it back in the tank and it works like new.

thanks for the great customer service hopefully i wont have this problem again. Although i am kind of curious why it stalled to begin with?
 
+1 ... MP20 about 4 months running without a hitch and suddenly now after a normal weekly maintenance where I turn it off, it started but then shut down. I would unplug and replug it in and it runs for a short time and turns off again.

I was running it in 'lagoon mode' at about 90% so I changed it to constant at about 60% and that kept it running but I need to be able to work out what the problem is - I much prefer lagoon mode for my tank.

Is this an overheating issue?

My issue is that I am in Australia and this is also the only pump in my cube. This morning I have taken it out and carefully dismantled and cleaned it. Nothing seemed damaged or worn. I have put it back together but I am wondering how tightly do fix the end nut? Just finger tight or more?

If this problem persists - can echo tech guide me as to how to deal with this? Is there an Australian contact that can help me?

When my MP20 started acting up, I was dead sure that it was the dry side motor because I had other Vortecs that I swapped out wetsides and drivers with and the problem still persisted. After I couldn't figure out the problem, I sent it in for diagnostic and repair but they told me that it ran fine and nothing was wrong. I received it back and it ran for 5 days before stalling & shutting down again. On the 2nd return, they changed out the inards of the wetside and it has been fine for the last few weeks. I guess maybe you can try to see if you can obtain a new prop, ceramic bushing/bearing, nylon bolt/nut/washer and see if that is the fix.
 
Thanks for that ... looking at the video on the echo tech website I can see my internals are a wee bit different. The shaft is longer than mine and the prop shaft is shorter than on mine.

I have popped it back in the tank and it seems to be running okay now but I would like to know what these MP20 issues are because being the only pump I have running, it would be good to be prepared next time.
