Mp40 extreme malfunction

Well, I finally got my deep blue 75gtank rimlesd tank and Ii already had my mp40 vortech sitting in the closet. So ii figured what the heck, I'll just go ahead and do a test fill and while I'm at it test out my vortech.

Now, before hand, I did watch the videos on how to set it up and work it and felt confident in operating the pump. With the glass on the tank being 1/2" thick I set the pin spacer to such and plugged up the pump (after tank was filled with water of course). Now I cut it on and it works fine for about 10 seconds then cuts off and flashes red and green. I google this and all I had to do was unplug it, and re-align it. I did this and this continued to happen about 5 more times. Then I do it one last time, then it works for a good 3 min. But after the 3 min it stops and I got to handle the wet side casing behind the propeller and it was rough to take off but, it comes off. When I look at it the center of it is completly grinded off in the center so bad that it melted into the shape of the inner part of the screw in the magnet. So i pop off the grinded off part and put the wetside covering back on and put it back in the box.

I go to check it for another test run hoping for the best and try to remove the casing on the back of the wetside and now I can't even get it off and the propeller does not even spin.

I'm at wondering has this happened to anyone? I do realize that I may have to send it back in for sevicing and being that I registered it the warrany should cover it since I got it in feb. Any input is helpful and thank you.

I had a similar issue. What happened was wetside magnet "swelled" so to speak. Looked cracked and corroded. I bought the pump used so I have no idea how it was handled before I bought it.
Really there is no point in servicing the wetside, just replacing the necessary parts. In your case I would say just get a whole new wetside.

I may have to do so. It was brand new from marine depot but hopfully the wetside doesnt cost much or ill have to save up again.

If your magnet is good and in tact you can purchase replacement part directly from exotech website. A new wet side is about 80 or so I bought 25 dollars worth of part and fixed it myself. Every part of the wet side can be bought and replaced separately if needed

It may have lost its synch. You can re calibrate it, google it, I forget.

Once you get the wet side fixed and it still shuts off, resynch.

I had the same problem with my wetside a few months back. The unit was still under warranty and Ecotech promptly replaced it when I notified them about the problem. I was really surprised at how quickly the parts just melted or fused together under water. there must be tremendous amount of heat generated.

Ecotech replaces fast. Great customer service. I use Tunze and have no idea who their customer service people are. That speaks louder than a 10wes any day.

Good to hear. When it messed up on me i was disappointed but from the sound of thung customer servicd is excellent. I just gotta wait till the morning to call and tell them about my situation.

OP. Seems like something wasn't tight out of the box. Contact Ecotech. Yes it is covered by a warranty and wet side issues certainly are covered.

His name is Roger and he has replaced a lot of pumps. This is about 1 pump and its defective wet side not what pump you think is best.
