So I received an mp40 from my wife for Christmas. The pump was purchased on 12/21/2014 for a price of $399.99 before taxes. I get a few emails from various online stores saying that there has been a price drop to $299.99. I call the store to see if they will honor the price drop and there response is no and all sales are final. My question is will you ecotech honor the price drop. Or am I sol with the price drop? Looking forward to your response ecotech.

Check with the credit card issuer you used. Some of them have price protection. For example, Discover covers you for 90 days. They will reimburse you up to 500 dollars

Madean,

We will not be offering any kind of rebate for those who purchased MP40wES pumps prior to the sale.

Well that's pretty disappointing and frustrating at the same time. I guess that helps me in my decision with my next purchase.

yeh i felt the same way when i bought my new truck and a month later it was $8500 cheaper because of the end of year incentives:-{

Yeah but you drove your truck off the lot. I haven't even opened the box. Needless to say I will never go back to that lfs to purchase anything. It was a Christmas present. I get it, from the stores point of view. They are loosing money on the deal as well unless ecotech is giving them a kick back. Which if they are then there wrong by not making it right with the consumer. I would have been happy with a $100 credit towards the purchase of another ecotech product since I need another pump. I also see why ecotech lowered there prices. The gyre pump is selling like crazy at 299 and the wave is coming out soon for the same price.

i have a gyre the flow is not much better than the vortechs, and it doesn't even come close to build quality of the vortechs, and probably wont last as long, im still running a original mp20 dry side, been going 5 years strait. its like comparing a reef octopus to a bubble king as far as build quality gose, maybe its not because of the gyre, wave, jebos or any other, maybe its to get rid of old stock to prepare for a new release, the mp 40 has had the same design since the beginning regardless if it was a mp20 box or not its still the same pump. im not taking ecotechs side here so lets not get it twisted, i thought they was over priced at $565, more reasonable at $395, but at $299 i wouldn't buy anything else. i wouldn't let this steer you away from there products, you cant expect everyone to be like Walmart. the costumer service and piece of mind knowing they will just about bend over backwards to get you back up and running is worth the premium they was charging, not to mention that even after the warranty is over you can still expect years of service out of the pump.

I've been around long enough and seen enough products come and go to know that is NOT why the price has dropped. The MP40 has been unchanged for a while. A price drop like that on a single product is usually indicative of an update being on the horizon and wanting to sell off all old stock. Very common practice.

As far as a rebate, I understand the frustration but it happens.
Would you like to be the one to decide how far back that rebate should go? Three weeks to cover yourself? 4? 2 months? Where does it stop? Unless your LFS got it for a discount, there's no reason they should give you anything, it wasn't their decision. Why should they lose money? Sorry. Like you said, it was a Christmas present. Enjoy it!

D2mini- you do bring up good points. If the goal was to sell off old stock maybe it would have been a better idea to lower the price around the Black Friday time frame. I'm sure more units would have been sold or moved out of stores if that happened. If that was the goal. And your right who decides how far back a rebate should be honored. I was and continue to be frustrated with the whole ordeal. And mainly due to the lfs really. The owner was a total dic@ about it. And who doesn't accept a return that wasn't opened? The whole customer service experience with the lfs and it's owner was just bad and could have been handled differently with the same outcome. It really left a bad taste in my mouth which is crappy because it was a decent to good store. But nevertheless I will never go back there and I will share my experience with fellow reefers about this store. I will not publicly lambast a lfs here on reefcentral but off this site is a different story. Usually when you start trash talking someone on this site, it tends to not end well. Enough said I'm done talking about this here on reefcentral. Time to move on.

I agree that it would have been good business for them to give you store credit on an unopened item. I think that's what department stores do for items returned that have since gone on sale if you have the receipt. But what if you just turned around and bought another at the sale price? That would have been the same as them giving you back the difference. That's a tough situation. I'm honestly not sure which way to lean on that.
Its true though... sometimes we are fine with the same outcome when handled in a much better way, and the wrong attitude alone can definitely put me off from revisiting an LFS.

But in the end, you still have one of the best powerheads ever made. ;)
