MP40WQD seized up in ONE WEEK. So done.

After replacing countless, poorly designed MP40 wetsides, I promised myself I would give up on the whole overpriced Vortech debacle. Then I heard they'd redesigned them. With well over a thousand dollars of sunk cost in these things, I thought I'd try one...because apparently, I'm a dreamer and a bit of an idiot.

Out of the box, I noticed the new ceramic shaft was covered in silicone grease. Not a good sign, what happens when that wears off, I wondered. I aligned it dead-on and it ran quiet.

Within ONE WEEK the whole thing seized up. I took it apart, aligned it PERFECTLY once more, and it seized up again five days later.

So here we go again...another bogus wetside design by Vortech, another $75 flushed down the toilet and another scramble to cobble together a replacement while dealing with the return.

perverse,

It's very unusual that you would have ongoing issues with any VorTech assuming you have the dryside spaced correctly. With that in mind, I would highly recommend measuring your aquarium's glass thickness and spacing the dryside appropriately. Also, please contact us directly for more information on having your wetside replaced.

I have 4 and have never had an issue. Been running my 2 mp40wes I bought used at 100% reef crest for 18 months and then my 2 new QD for a week on tidal swell at 100%.

You must have the spacing wrong to be having so many problems. Or did you over tighten or forget a piece after reassembly?
