MP60 vs MP40

this might be a dumb question but what do you guys think is better for a 125 tank?

1 MP60 on one end of the tank, or

2 MP40 facing each other

Wow... I didn't even know there was an MP60! I'm behind!

Looking at specs, I'd personally go with two MP40s. You can sync them and have them run together in whatever you're doing and have better overall flow. 125 are long tanks, aren't they? Even more so for two MP40s.

Two MP40's. The MP60's are way overkill. They do around 7,500 gph each.

If you chose MP60 you would only need one running 1/2 speed!

Im gonna go with one mp60 on the bow front. From what I've read and videos I've seen the MP60 is more than powerful enough to do the job of two MP40's

$695 for one brand new MP60w es,

$445x2 for two brand new Mp40w es

$650 give or take for two used MP40w es.

Only problem with one MP60 is that you blast the living crap out of one area to get flow through the entire tank, or you can spread out the flow with multiple power heads with the 40's. For convenience and flexibility I would go with 2. Sometimes it's not about the money. Sometimes it's about being able to keep livestock in all areas of your tank. The MP60 would rip apart your corals if you place them directly in front of it.

If you do one mp40. The other side won't get enough flow. You can put a cheaper pump till you have money for a 2nd.

I have a friend that purchased an mp60 for his 125 on the thought it was enough. Sure it is absolutely more than plenty, but the problem is about a foot in front of it, it blows everything down, literally, and this was at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle on it. He sold it a week later, picked up 2 mp40's and the tank looks excellent..sps covering every inch of it without fear of blowing it down or stirring up the sandbed. That 60, the undertoe was amazing, great piece of equipment but man!

That's what I did on my old 110. 2 MP40's. Put them at half and did reef crest for most of the time, I could never see a 60 on there.

I was talking to one of the vendors at the swap, he was running 2 mp40w es on his 200. I'm going to do 2 mp40w es on my 240.

One last comment..too much flow is a band thing structure wise. AN MP60 is so powerful that you can create a wave that causes too much pressure on the joints and can cause premature failure of the silicon at the seams. these tanks were not designed for massive wave action. Just food for thought.

ok...I won a MP10 at the swap...
On a 76 gallon half circle I was thinking two MP10's or one MP 40? opinions on this? same thing just smaller tank..

Keep the 10 and supplement that to an mp40. I am thinking about picking up an mp10 for my 60 cube to go with my mp40.

If you want to keep SPS High Flow is necessary for certain types of SPS and I have only a 105gal tank and I have 2xMP40's and 2xTunze 6025 for the corners. If my tank was not Rimless i would run them wide open for the most flow i can get for my coral, The Waves in the ocean that break over the top of the Reefs of the world are way stronger than an MP60 and the coral love it. All this is just speculation unless you own one anyway. JMO

Isnt there a disclaimer in the literature of pretty much all powerheads that says it may weaken the seals of a tank??
