Mr Aqua packing job

Good call on the stand!

Good call on the stand!

Thanks. I too received my tank and as previously stated was very well packaged. Turns out the tank measures 18 1/8" x 18 1/8" and luckily I added an extra 1/2" to my tank stand so should look OK.

Beutiful cube tank. Will be setting it up in the coming weeks.

Scott

Hey, Scott. Thank you so much for the follow-up. Good call on giving the tank some extra leeway with the stand. We are breathing a collective sigh of relief here because we hate providing inaccurate information. We asked around internally about the size difference you encountered and one of our staffers reported he bumped into a similar issue when we were setting up our booth at Reef-A-Palooza. We just sent an email directly to Mr. Aqua to see if these were anomalies resulting from the tanks being handmade or if they are all 18 1/8". If it's the latter, we are touching base so we can update the product description accordingly.

We appreciate you giving us the heads up here. This type of info is extremely helpful to us so we that we can accurately represent the products we carry and set the proper expectations.

We'll follow up to let you know how it goes.

Follow-Up from Mr. Aqua: 18 1/8" is indeed correct

Mr. Aqua measured one of their tanks for us in their own warehouse and came up with the same measurement you did. We will therefore be updating the product description accordingly. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention. Aquarium hobbyists are good peeps.

We'd love to follow your build thread if you start one here on RC. If you want to show off your progress, please post a pic on our Facebook wall.

Happy reefing!

Scott, did you get the regular glass or the low iron glass?

@Maximus - low-iron glass of course.

@sponsor - I have a build thread on our club's site. Waiting until my LR to cycle then will finish build. I have it lite with a single EcoTech Radion and flow with a single Vortech MP10 ES. Thus far, I love the tank.

Add me as well! I bought a Mr Aqua 12 gallon long tank and it came in a box almost twice its size with enough packing peanuts to drown a person. The actual tank was bubble wrapped 3-4 times.

The only thing that could have been an issue is there is a cardboard lid on the tank with metal staples. These could rub against the sides and cause some deep scratches. Mine was not scratched thought so maybe it isnt an issue.

The cardboard lid with metal staples is put in place by the manufacturer. We've alerted our purchasing department (thank you for your feedback), so they are going to contact the manufacturer to discuss the packaging. Hopefully we can persuade them to try some alternative that is less likely to cause damage.

What's the latest on the stands? I still don't see them offered for sale.

We checked with our purchasing department and they stated we will not be bringing them aboard again until some quality issues we informed the manufacturer about are addressed. We apologize for not having better news for you!

Got my Mr Aqua 12 Long...holy cow guys, I felt like the dad in "A Christmas Story" unpacking the leg lamp. Awesome packing.

Thanks! We sell a ton of 'em so we've got the packing pretty much down to a science.

Here's a little information about the biodegradable packing peanuts we use.

I was more impressed with the packing job than the tank (and that's saying a lot because I'm very impressed with the tank). The $8 shipping upcharge seemed silly to me but my guess is that it was $8 of protective packaging which is fine by me since I don't want to have to deal with a broken tank.

Do you think a better approach would be to add heavy/fragile item surcharges into the regular shipping charge to simplify things?
