Mr. Murphy stopped by, whizzed in the tank.

No start or run capacitors right? What's the motor info? you can find the bearing data if it's one of the more common motors as well.

Okay, I took the covers off and checked out the situation. The rear bearing (by the fan) squeaks like a mouse when I rotate it by hand. I'm sure the front one could use replacing too.

Here's the plate on the motor:

Here's the front bearing (by the impeller):

And here's the rear (fan) bearing:

Any ideas for a local source on these?

Thanks!

Grainger if Andrew can't source them. Does either bearing seem to "catch" when you are rotating it by hand? If it squeaks it's most likely beat, but if they are still rotating freely it may also be a run capacitor.

This would be my best guess.

Drop these guys a line and they should be able to confirm the bearing and capacitor info.

Thanks, Walter. The front bearing seems to catch and the rear one squeaks. I'll give them a shout tomorrow to confirm. That would be a sweet and relatively inexpensive fix!

Okay, how do I get these stinking things off?!?!?!

I removed the C-shaped spring clip that prevents the bearing from moving inward, but this thing is stuck pretty well onto the drive shaft. Do I need to use a gear puller to get it off?

Went in this morning and with a couple of plumbing adaptors, took the Dart off the closed loop and repurposed it as the return pump to buy myself some time.
When I replumb the chiller/closed loop, I'll either use the velocity or gen-x pumps for that and keep the Barraccuda as a backup. The Dart provides plenty of flow for my system.

Well, another hurdle(s).

I addition to my ballast crapping out, there's a leak somewhere in the tank. It's slow, but it's there an isn't going away.

I'd love to hear any ideas folks might have for possible solutions. I bought this aquarium used, so there's no warranty. I MAY be able to get a little help from the PTA (~$200) to put towards something. I don't want to spend a lot of my own money to rectify this, but I don't want to have my hand out either.

I was considering a plywood build, but even that's pricey after epoxy and glass.

Keep your eyes open and let me know if you hear of any 8 foot long aquariums for sale (cheap!).

Didn't that guy jjjo have an 8 foot 300 for sale a ways back? Perhaps some cash and a tax deductible donation to a school might put him in good standing with Mr Murphy.
