MRC Club

Probably a dumb question but for the utube mod do I use the same parts for myMR3R times 2 of course as is listed above for the MR 1

I think you need to use 1 1/4" to make everything fit (since there is 2) and you will want to add a short piece of pipe at the end of the utube up into your water column (just 3 or 4 inches). Go back a page and towards the bottom is a link to pictures that might make it easier to understand.

What do you guys think of the mod that joins the two airways with one air valve rather than the two seperate ones ,Is this a good idea or not.If it's a good one I would probably go that route rather than raise the injectors. The more responces the better the picture we will get. Thanks

Everybody must be enjoying the weather .It's not fair ,I just got my new toy,I mean skimmer and nobody wants to play...LOL

I don't know many that have done that one. My vote is leave it stock for a few months and then decide if you need to mod it. If so start with the u-tube and see how that works for you. I don't think there is a need for the single air valve. Maybe PM the guy that did it and get his feedback.

Your absolutely right thanks for the quick response.Right now I'm running the skimmer with the water(with bubbles) right level with the bottom of the grey ring below the neck of the cup,It's been 5 days and it's skimming OK but not great. My sys. is 180 gal. including RDSB(35g/ + 55 sump+90 DT.

I'm gonna try the utube this weekend. Hope it works out ok as I just started dosing sugar and I'd hate to have my skimmer stop working right now.

I added the utube mod today. I have an older skimmer so I'm not sure if theres a difference, but the utube definitely does not fit snugly over the bulkhead or between the bulkhead and the black box wall. It's sitting loosely over the bulkhead sort of held in place by the piping on the exit gate valve. On the good side I'm getting a lot less bubbles coming out of my gate valve, on the bad I'm not sure the utube will stay in place. It's also a bit harder to gauge where the water level is and I don't think I have as much control over the size of the air bubbles. Its wet skimming only, but I'm ok with that.

I used a 1.5" street 90 and 45 elbow and thats it.

hey got a question for you guys. i have an mr2 on a 125gallon currently running it with a mag18 but looking for an upgrade. id like to run one external pump for the skimmer and return. would a snapper or dart work? any reccomendations?

Nice... let us know how you like it in a few days.

Prime311,
i went to lowes and bought both the 1 1/4 and the 1 1/2 inch couplings...the 1 1/2 coupling slipped right over mine. And it like i said previously my skimmer is working nice as ever... everyday it produces more and more skimmate...

Here in London PVC hardly exists at hardware outlets except in the electrical section. For the utube mod I bought a piece from the electrical section.I forget what it's called ,it sits on top of electrical conduit outside(half moon shape, one end fits onto conduit and the wiring comes out the other side.I'm going to drill a bunch of small holes for the air to get out.I've looked around the site but cannot find how to post a pic from my camera only from URL's.I will be using the electrical conduit(PVC) to raise my becketts as well on the MR3R.

Cool, I'll try a coupling to see if it secures it. I haven't seen a noticeable difference in my skimmate and I still mess with the water level every day depending how much/little skimmate is being taken out of the tank. The difference in bubbles though is night and day, my exit valve used to empty out water that looked like foam and now it just looks like clear water again. All in all I'm very happy with the mod.

This question is directed mainly at the MR3R owners.
How high up the column do you keep your water level. The MRC site says to keep the water level from four to eight inches above the blue box.I presently have my water level just below the top of the grey ring.I have had the skimmer now almost two weeks.I raised the becketts by ten inches and did a modified utube mod.I really appreciate your input as I want to get the best performance possible out of this awesome machine. If it helps I'm running a Panworld 150.

Also how much water does your feed pump pump into the skimmer.I have a Mag 24 as a return pump with a tee going to the sump. The ball valve is presently eighty percent closed allowing for only a small flow exiting the gate valve.I'm looking forward to your insights, thanks.

Bump!! Has everybody sold their MRC skimmers I'm very new to the MRC club(less than two weeks) and could use some input.thanks.
