MSX 300 or 200?

DID I SOUNDS SMRT??
My tank is going to be 200g with a 90g sump (1/2-3/4 full). I want overkill but how much extra will I get with the 300 since they are powered by the same type and amount of pumps.

thanks

Also depends on the amount of space in your sump. If you haven't put the baffles in yet, just make sure you give yourself a good 18-20" for your skimmer section, whether you go with the 250 or the 300. I ended up going with the 300 because of space limitations, because oddly enough the 300's footprint can be made slightly smaller (~13x16) than the MSX250 (16x16).

I have a recirc on my msx200 but do not run it exteral. I will be doing some testing with one soon with an external recirc that i think will work fine.

clevengergl -- Just like you I am going with the 300 cause of size limitations......I have seen your mod to reduce the footprint....Do you think I can get it easily to 12.5 x 16? My skimmer chamber is 18x12.5.....

GreyDC, that's going to be awfully tight. You'll have to make sure your pumps are straight up and down, but even then I think they still stick out slightly wider than the 12" diameter body of the skimmer. That said, it may JUST fit, but there's a good possibility your pumps will be right up against the sides of your sump and you could have some noise issues. Would moving a baffle help at all or is your sump only 12.5" inside width?

Well, the sump is the 36" MRC.

The way it is designed, I could possibly free up some space on one side of it......just dont know much and whether or not it would be a good idea to cut that single panel that divides the Refug and the baffles.....

(I have a picture of the sump, but am having porblems uploading to to my message)

Definitely, sorry dvanackers!! I would agree with everyone else and go with the 250. I saw the 200 in action two days ago and it completely sold me on MSX's. These things are beasts....can only imagine the 250.

already made my order for the 250......should arrive next week. just an FYI but jayson (SWC) said it was his last 250 and marinesolutions has only a few left. Both are out of the 300. They will be available in June sometime I guess. Can't wait to get mine.

I thought the pumps needed to be run in water to keep them cool.

USC.....we both know that answer. There would be a disclaimer saying do not run it external and many people will run it external and there will be problems and then complaints and a nightmare to the dealer in the end.
