I know a lot of people (myself included) are having problems pulling up the page itself because it loads way too slow or in my case even freezes my system up for a while..

I like the idea of having our own website but I think that the forum part should stay in RC because that's where everyone is used to going for info. I mean I wouldn't even know about the MTRC if it weren't for RC and I'm sure many of you found MTRC the same way.

I think the website could have all the members name and info and some pics of the members tanks and even a section of how to's and reviews of products, online places to buy stuff and even LFS's reviews"¦

I don't have any problems with the website. I never registered though and when I go to the site, I'm a guest. Has anyone tried goin' to the site and not log in and see how it works?

Awhile back, when the site was first made, we did have all the members, emails, and pictures of tanks.

I think there is value in having a presence on RC..I do not think the RC forums are where to go for club information. If you take a look at the forum topics on the club site, they are not in competition with alot of the chatter here.

The reasons behind even having any forums on the website I am happy to discuss outside of RC forums.

I can say that one of the main reasons for a forum over there is for club member only areas for open and frank discussion, where other eyes and non club member input is not warranted, as well as the ability to control and recall the information rather than having threads fall of and get erased after 90 days. This to me is important for club info and club topics.

General chit chat I could care less where it happens unless it pertains to club business.

The web site also gives us greater function for the club calendar, paying dues, sign ups (will be there next year) for the swap or field trips, or meeting hosting, and even to be a single place for officers to post meeting minutes and club financials.

Ideas are welcome, however I would prefer them over there becasue then I can keep track of them rather than having to search through all these threads. (hence organzational dillema of using a flat BB style forum like RC).

I also know many folks who have zero problems accessing, and your client setup can have as much to do with it as the server. The server parts we can remedy...

I just tried MTRC site again and received responses within 3 seconds for each page. Not super speedy, but not really slow either. I do have the issue with not staying logged in also, but I have it with all other sites including Reef Cental. Probably user error on my part as I have not played with the Firefox settings too much. (I have added the domain to the allowed sites)

I'd love to see this and other what should the club do topics discussed openly at a future meeting. Too much seems to not happen or happen behind closed doors. I think this club could be so much more. That is NOT to offend any former officers or any specific persons... is a challenge to ourselves for the future.

I agree with you that club info should not be on here that should definitely be on the website..

I think some stuff ends up getting posted in both places once people realize that there is no activity on the club website thus my suggestion to only have it on here since this is where everyone comes first. There is no need for 2 seperate forums that do the same things. RC for just about everything and MTRC for club related things only..

I do agree 100% that there should be an area for members only to discuss things MTRC related as other input is not needed.

It must be something screwy with the server cause at home I can pull mtrc.org just fine and it even keeps me logged in no problem.

yeah I just pulled up the club website just fine but at work it even manages to freeze up the pc for a little while... I mean if I try to open it and just leave the pc alone for about 5 minutes it will pull up the website but I cant do that for every page I want to open.

Ok, so what is the one thing that has changed here? your work network/PC versus your Home...server and code is the same...

My bet is your netadmins ahve either disabled some functions via a domain policy that causes IE8 to puke a litte, or as very frequently happens you are sitting behind a spam/phishing/surf control filter and a proxy and they will not hold your sessions open and are checking each and every call to the server for suspicious content...which will SLOW you down (and discourages people from web surfing at work). If a site isn't on the master lsit of approved places, it can get awefully slow.

I think Zach would back me on this potential theory for you. It is not the msot robust set up we have, but the software is allf ree and it has quite alot for almost zero cost (other than my time). Now, if we want to invest a little money (not a joke here) we may be able to do alot more...but thats if we need to.
