Multibar Angel...

I've had this fish for 4-5 years. It's always been a little nippy with my SPS and an awesome Stereonephthya, but it seems to be getting worse recently. I caught him out of my main display and put him in a smaller connected tank. I've been thinking about trading him in for credit at a LFS or selling it, but this is an awesome fish. I hate to get rid of it knowing that I may never have another or that the next owner may kill it. I'm really thinking about putting it back in the main display and hoping it won't do too much damage. Anybody care to share your opinions on what you would do? Here it is eating some NLS pellets with gusto. That Seriatopora is actually growing under two screw-in 23w 65k CF bulbs. I need to find it a new home too, it's yellow/green with purple polyps under better lighting.

Wish I could find one eating! Love that fish! ... I know Reefbum has 1 in his TOTM SPS tank...maybe you could send him a PM for advise.

Like with all fish I think it just depends on the fish, I have 3 multibars in an sps tank and they never even look at the SPS or my clam. My fish cruise around under the rocks all day swimming sideways or almost upside down to try and catch pods (they kind of act like mandarin gobies) and i feed 2 times a day. I wouldn't get rid of him as you know it's very difficult to get them to eat and even more difficult to get them to eat pellets and flakes, maybe leaving it in your sump for a week will reset his behavior.

BTW i just sold 2 of the 3 because I'm upgrading to a 300g tank and I had a bad experience with my last upgrade and lost almost all my fish (I also need the money for large skimmer) or else I would never have sold them.

Is it possible your corals aren't doing well for some reason? IME fish like this often eat sick/dying corals. Just an idea... Gorgeous fish BTW!

WOW, THAT is very interesting information...I'm now, officially, looking for a multibar! Haven't tried 1 for almost 20 years!

Thanks for the compliments. All of my corals are healthy. It just really likes to nip. Its favorites seem to be tabling Acro's, Stylophora and Stereonephthya. I'm doing some maintenance this afternoon and I think I'll put it back in. If it doesn't work out, I might tie a larger tank into the system and put it in there. The tank that it's in is way too small. The pics don't do my corals any justice but here's some of them. Please excuse the algae and cyano. I just added biopellets and it hasn't worked itself out yet.

Could your fish have been picking on Cyano starting to grow on your corals? I've seen this behavior with my Centropyge angels recently..

There isn't anything growing on the corals. Nipping at corals is just part of its personality. Cyano wasn't much of an issue until I added the biopellets, even now it isn't real significant.
