Multicontroller with 2 6100s vs 2 6100s each with controller

Just wondering whether I would be better off going with 2 6100s on a multicontroller or 2 6100s each with their own controllers. The reason I ask is that I can probably afford a single 6100 with controller now but won't be able to afford a second for 3-4 months down the road. Would I be better off waiting till I can afford the multicontroller with 2 6100s. The price for the 2 combos is approximately the same. I have a 280 gallon reef (72" X 30" X 30") with SPS and some LPS. Eventually, the tank will be mainly SPS.

Thanks,

Andy

You can buy one 6100 and a multi, or you can buy one 6100 and no controller, it won't pulse or do anything fancy but you can turn a set screw and adjust the flow to one fixed speed. Just be sure to turn it back up before attaching a controller or the controller won't work right. The multicontroller does offer numerous advantages.

What exactly does a multicontroller do that a single controller doesn't. One other question. Are there any posts out there that show pics of peoples stream pumps in their setups. I've never seen one before first hand and would like to get a better feel for what they look like in people's tanks.

Thanks

You might run a search for the Streams and check some posts. The multicontroller can run up to 8 pumps. The Single controller can run as many as two. Branch adapters are required to do this. The Multicontroller has modes, such as sequence, pulse, and tide. The Single controller can only pulse. The multicontroller has two independent channels so the pumps can be programmed seperately and then coordinated to have one off and one on. The multicontroller includes the photocell which is an accessory on the single controller.
