multiple azure demoiselle (damselfish)

I've heard these are relatively peaceful damselfish, does anyone have a group of these in there tank? A large group of these would certainly light up your tank for sure.

I added 5 on Feb, 28. So far so good.
At first they all stayed together but within a few days took to separate areas of the tank. They have periodic bouts between each other at times and at other times they will group into 2's or 3's. They don't bother their tankmates and for the most part vice-versa.
I have been very pleased with this addition. It is still too early to see if they remain tolerant of each other but time will tell.
I have seen a couple of fish sold as the Azure from different sources so to clarify I have C. hemicyanea.

So six weeks into it and you're still happy with the addition, that's a good sign. I am assuming they are about 1" to 1.5", at this stage I am not too concern about their agression, it's later when they mature and develope the nasty temper that damsels are notorious for that I worry about. But then again, they're suppose to stay small, like 2" at most. Mind you I've never seen one larger than 1.5". Please keep us updated. I am thinking of adding 8-10 (1") to my tank.

Very happy, they add a little a color and they're all over the tank. Excellent dither fish for around the lower portions of the tank.

You are correct about the size but I don't know how things will work out in the long as far as aggression but I feel like they will be fine. These are supposed to be the most peacefull of the Damsel's and that is in part why I selected them

I'm not sure if I would do 10 if this is in your 120. Mine have spaced out equally across the tank. On the other hand it may be enough numbers to dissapate the aggression, not really sure though.

Anyone keep this damsel with flasher wrasses or firefish? I am thinking about adding a group of these also to my 125 but concered about aggression.

I have 2 Lubbocks and see no issues whatsover. I did have a McCoskers but he jumped ship about a week ago. I really don't believe it was in any way related to the Damsels.
I would be a little concerned about the firefish. Some can hold their own to a point but some are very timid. If your only planning 1 or 2 then the Firefish could probably find areas of refuge, any more though and it would be tough on the FF if the damsels decided to pick on it. I"m not certain on this one .

Seeing that these aren't schooling fish, can you describe in details how your 5 are behaving towards each other. Are they active seeking each other to fight or just defending an area and darting at threatening oncomers? How about towards other smaller fish?

I bought two, now they spawn every 8 to 10 days. I wish I had bought more, but I won't add them now in case they mess up the pair dynamic. They're not especially aggressive - I've had them circa a year I think. Nice fish i.m.o.

It is mainly territory defense. Kind of odd that I have two that seem to like each other, possibly starting to pair, on the left half of the tank and two that are overly defensive towards one another on the right half. Like many other fish, there are some more aggressive than others within the same species.
At times they will be tolerant of one another and mingle and at other times if one gets to close it is chased away instantly.
I have yet to have any issues with some of the smaller fish in the tank but they are all similar in size or slightly larger than the Damsels. The others are 2 Chaulk Bass, 2 Lubbocks Fairy Wrasses, and a single Orchid Dottyback. I have a Midas Blenny as well but he is considerably larger. My larger fish don't even notice them but the Damsel keep their distance.

I had planned on picking up 8 but as I went back to the LFS today, only 4 was left, so I picked up what was left. Just finished a fw dip and now in the frag tank with some athias in there. I am going to leave them in there for about a week to let them get used to the food first before adding to the main tank. These 4 I picked up are actually under an inch, very cute.

I had 2 of them, a male and a female. In case you don't know, the male has a tint of orange on the anal fin.

The female is the only one left, and she is my favorite. The only damsel that doesn't swim off and hide when I? come up to the tank, she is the only fish that would eat out of my hand too.

They didn't really associate with each other much, but they may in a larger group.
