Multiple CBB???

Does anyone out there have experience keeping more than 1 Copperband butterly in the same tank? I have a 90 gallon tank with a 30 gallon sump and 29 gallon fuge. I already have 1 CBB that I've have for about 8 or 9 months, he has done great and eats like a pig! But I'd like to add 1 or 2 more. Any input would be appreciated.....

this is what I would like to know also, also to add to this post, is it safe to put one in a predator system with many tangs?

That would be a bad idea..... tangs that have already established their selves and there territory would most likely kill the CBB quickly, they are very delicate fish.....

Now Back to The Topic.......
 
I've attempted CBB several times and also have numerous tangs. My yellows did not tolerate the CBBs. I guess the coloration was similar enough to threaten the tangs and as anyone has experienced, CBBs do not do well when stressed. Mine would stay hidden and starve.

90 seems too small to keep 2 CBB. Not a lot of people have success with this fish. I'd be thankful the 1 is doing so well, and not push my luck.

As for the tangs...my naso beat up the only CBB I ever bought. It was relentless, for days. The CBB would just cower in a corner, the poor thing. I finally caught and returned it. This was in a 180. I would not try this with established tangs.
 
I've tried this before. In my experience you have to get two of the opposite sex and they will co-exist peacefully. However, if they are the same sex one will dominate the other and try to drive it out of it's territory.

That is a great point, Karina, one should be happy with a healthy one, and not push it.

I am happy with my one, and he has done well. But I'd really like a pair, that's why I'm asking has anyone else done this?..... if anyone has first hand experience?

Thanks for your comment..... I'm gonna get another and see if they get along, if the fight ill take it back to the lfs or sell it..... thanks again for speaking from your experience.
 
I have a long-term CBB of my own. I asked the same question a while back. In nature they are usually in a big/little pair because they are serial hermaphrodites, ie they turn female. I even saw a fish-expert speaker who said it ought to work. But several on this board who had actually tried it said it did not end well. I have to trust experience over theory.

And your tank is too small.
 
I've kept 2 in the same tank before, but I wouldn't recommend it, especially in a 90. You'll end up with one, or none. You can't sex them, and even if they were opposites, I think the tank is too small. FWIW these were in a 1000 gal. tank.
 
So they can't be sexed? Would it work to add a little one to a big one? Can you test their agressiveness with the mirror trick? I like my fish in pairs and I would als love a second CBB. Would you guys think it could work in a 450g?
