hi everyone, happy new year ! However, not so happy in the tank. I had recent hand surgery and have been unable to do a lot of tank maintenance lately, however, a lot of my problems started before this. Most of my sps and monti is dead or dying, Im getting overun with cyno, my lps is starting to receed and my deep sand bed is starting to look like crap. I did have some problems with my skimmer , and I noticed back in november when I was away o/s, I had a neighbor taking care of the tank, everything started looking like crap when I got back. Since then, its really taking a down turn. Here are my most recent water parameters-(125 with 40 sump)
nitrate 20 or just less(salifaert test), phosphate less than .04ppm, calcium 500, alk 9.6, sg at 1.026, ph 7.96, drops to 7.8 at night. I saw the high cal and alk, and since have stopped dosing 2 part for a while. Last water change 3 weeks go, need a water change but cant do one right now.
I did end up getting a new reef octopus xp cone skimmmer and breaking this in since yesterday, so hopefully the skimmer issue will be resolved, my asm G3 occassionaly would not start, or would fill up and overflow back into the tank overnight.......bad !!
Im also noticing the sandbed is starting to get really dirty by looking at the glass about 1" down from the top of the sandbed and Im also getting flat bug like things that appear to be eating the nasty stuff ( dont know if there good or bad) in the sandbed. All the fish seem healthy, and the softies and zoas are looking good.
Any help or advice welcome, its starting to get to the remove everything and start again....Im in edgewater in city..
