Multiple skimmerz?

Im thinking of getting a new skimmer, but also thinking of turning my 225 fw into salt in the future.
Instead of buying an expensive skimmer thats rated for a 225+,could I get a skimmer thats rated lower and use it in combination with my ASM G2 that I have now when I change my 225 over to get the proper amount of skimming done?

I dont see why not, there'd be drawbacks to consider though like having enough room to run 2 skimmers, running 2 might use more power ( if that matters), might be more noise too. Just my 2 cents

I've heard of people doing it but if I remember right one usually outskimms the other leaving one useless but I could be wrong. Ask farmer I'm sure he's done it...

I was having nutrient issues and tried it. One skimmer did out perform the other, but both seemed to be effective. Eventually neither skimmed anything. They seemed to skim all they could skim. Depsite that, the dynamic duo did not seem to have much impact. At that point I cut back to one.

Has anyone experienced the dreaded "over skimming". Whereas a skimmer is purchased with a future tank upgrade in mind but is so overpowered for the current setup that it removes all sorts of needed "good stuff" out of the water? It shrouds kinds shady IMO but would like feedback on anyone's thoughts if there is actually some truth to this or if its all just a bunch of fish poo

I ran a tripple pump recirculating 12" octopus on a 58g. If that's not overkill I don't know what is. My sps grew great. Soft corals not so much.

If it were me and I was going to run two small vs one big, I'd make sure they aren't skimming the same water. If you have two overflows on the 225 you could run one to each skimmer seperately. Not sure how you're set up though.

Im not set up at all yet. My 225 is a rift lake cichlid tank for now. Im just thinking down the road. Two overflows is a good idea though.

ran 2 smaller skimmers and 1 would skim till it got dirty than the next would skim till it got dirty, the cleaner 1 that had less build up would always skim better
