Multiple Streams & Surface Agitation

I've decided to go with a euro-braced top in my new system (72"x24"x30"), and was wondering about my desired water height and how my planned dual Tunze 6205s will impact it.

I'm going with a single toothless, centered on the back wall, internal overflow. From my calculations, there will only ever be a maximum water height of ~1/3" (probably closer to 1/4" normally) flowing over the overflow wall. So, to avoid any major issues, I need to lower the height of the overflow at least that much below the rim of the aquarium (obviously I will lower it more than that though to be safe).

My question is this: how much should I lower my overflow to avoid "splash over" from the pumps? Is that even something I need to be worried about with proper pump placement? Would 1" from the rim be about right? Lower? Higher? With 1", I'd have ~2/3" of play before the water came up to the top of the rim.

Thanks!

You shouldn't worry about the pump splash the water out if you properly place them in the tank. You will have lots of surface agitation with 2 6205 but water flying out of the tank will not happen. You can have the water level 1" below the brace without any issue....

I don't think the 6205's will create much of an issue, the wavebox would be a problem or trying to generate a wave with the 6205's but just using them as a powerhead with normal interval and pulsing will be a non issue.

Thanks!

Note to self: when I have a question that's even remotely related to water flow, this is the place to ask it. I got more replies to this thread in 1/2 hour than a similar question I posted in another forum over 12 hours ago.

What service! Now I just have to get this thing up and running...
