multiple tangs ......

Hello All,

Looking for some opinions about an idea that we are having ..... soon, our 375 gallon tank will be ready to fill with fish ... we will be moving our existing fish:

2 clowns
2 cardinal fish
1 goby
2 dragonets
1 copperband butterfly fish
1 Regal Tang
1 Sailfin Tang

some various coral ... and 1 beautiful clam ....

we are really wanting to add a couple more tangs ... I think it may be tricky .. but are looking and really wanting to add a sohal tang ... and another maybe a naso .. or a purple ... something like that.

I've read quite a few places about people having multiple tangs together ... but am concerned about the sohal mostly ......

Any opinions or experience with trying this would be great ...

thanks

Your concerns about the Sohal are valid. They can be very mean and aggressive. In that size tank, you should be able to put a Naso in without much issue. The sailfin and purple might have issues but the Sohal will definitely be an issue.

In my current system, 190 Gallon DT, I have 3 Yellow tangs and 1 Purple tang and surprisingly they all get along.

Most people keep tangs in odd numbers to inhibit fighting... what I have found and has been successful for me in the past is to make sure there is enough food for everyone and as long as they are all fed well, they don't fight. Tangs usually get territorial to protect their food source. I feed twice a day, nori in the morning and brine/mysis in the evening.

I've seen larger tanks like yours have several 7+ tangs which also included a Sohal, but... I have not been fortunate enough to have a large enough system to keep a sohal yet, so I really can not comment on having one long term.

As the others above have suggested, maybe a Naso or Unicorn Tang would work well.

just my 2 cents...

If you introduce them all at the same time, they will be fine. Put them in quarantine for 4-6weeks, then dump them in the DT. Less chance for one fish trying to take the entire footprint for hinself.

My concern is if you move the sailfin before you introduce the others, he's going to want that entire space.

I have a 300g with the below getting along

Blonde naso
Sailfin
Hippo
Yellow
Purple
Powder blue
White tail bristletooth
One spot rabbitfish
Two barred rabbitfish
Lunar wrasse

Hello all .... so after doing a lot more reading and researching ..... i'm liking the advice of no sohal tang ..... I would love one ... but just thinking that its not the best choice ... also liking the idea of the vlamingy .... so planning on putting them all together at the same time .... our regal tang ... sailfin ... and addition of a vlamingy and a blonde naso tang ... 4 tangs that size in a 375 .... should be good yes ??

any thoughts .....

I have had a couple of Vlamingii Tangs over the years and it is by far my favorite fish. They swim constantly and will eat out of your hand.

My blonde naso and my Achilles both eat out of my hands. The problem though is i feed them $20s.

Seriously in my 300, I have Achilles, pbt, yellow, purple, blonde naso and chevron. Qt the fish, do a fallow period w the tank if you can and add at the same time and you should be ok

ReefPharmer - I have a Naso, Powder Blue and Chevron co-habitating, mostly in peace, while the 350 cycles. I am concerned about dumping that much 'bioload' in the tank at once. I was planning on a week between tangs. Do you think that will make a difference?
