mushroom fuge

This is just an idea I'm mulling over...
No thought of abandoning cheato, which does its thing the best I can ask for...
But wondering about an antechamber to the fuge...whether it might be a good thing for sps corals to have some hungry shrooms in there. To my knowledge they don't do chemical warfare: it's all contact stuff.
But they do sop up the nutrients, both the biologically produced [poo] and the elemental, and, while I did have lps corals in the tank, I had particularly good growth from my sps and lps in my last tank, so long as I could keep the also amazingly burgeoning shrooms away from the sps. Lps held their own, in general. But I had a very weenie skimmer for that situation.
Thinking out loud here. I've heard of using xenia for export. I'm wondering about a pre-fuge mushroom farm...
We use bigger and bigger skimmers, and I'm not at all saying no skimmers: I'm just wondering if enough shrooms could make a moderate skimmer sufficient for sps.

Not sure about chemical warfare or not, but it is a pretty good idea. Then you might be able to even have your sump as a showable piece of equiptment. Could get some pretty cool looking colors to it. Interested in finiding out as well.

I have a lot of Mushrooms in my tank and run 2 skimmers. I think they add to the load. I seen a nice Fuge on here a while back with a Fuge full of Xenia. I think I would be affraid of counting heavily on Xenia in case of a crash.

Theres a comment in "Reef aquarium Volume 3"- Delbeek and Sprung that mentions using Xenia for the same purpose - sounds doable. I must admit thought that i always thought that mushrooms released toxins into the water column so have you considered trying Xenia?
