I have a 55 Gal. reef tank and my mushroom today din't open this is the first time un 3 years thar all off them din't open. I had a Blue, Red, Ricordea and a huge metallic mushrrom. I chek every thing in the tank:
PH-8.4
Nitrite-0
Nitrate-0
amonia-0
Phos.-0
Calcium- over 450
The thing is that every other coral y fully open like nothing is happening. What can it be?????

:( :(

Have you added anything recently that might be harrassing them chemically (allelopathy)? What is your alkalinity? Any swings in salinity?

I've noticed that when my ricordeas get harrassed (usually by me propagating them) the mucus they excrete bothers the rest of the shrooms in the tank and they don't open all the way for a little while. Maybe something similar happened.

No sweat, if its not opening for a week, there is something wrong, after one day, there are any number of things that could have caused it to close (or stay closed).

As mentioned above, low or high alkalinity is always a possibility, but with a 3-year old tank, I doubt that would be the case.

Think back, have you done anything our of the ordinary in the last week? Have you added anything new? Did you replace your bulbs?

If you can't find anything out of the ordinary, are they starting to bud new msuhrooms? it'd be an odd coincidence all at once but i find mine shrink back to make room for babies for a bout a week or so then open right back up

My shrooms do the same. They shrink up and within a week you can see the foot has stretched in several spots to the point of seperation. This is probably the case with yours unless your crabs have been climing all over them.
