Mushrooms

Whistler's Mother
My tank has been up and running for about three months now and I just ordered my first coral. It's a 4x5 rock with a few different mushrooms on it.

My tank is a 90 tall and I'm currently only running 400w PCs. I should be getting a MH ballast for x-mas from my parents.

The coral should be here tomorrow. Since my lighting is kinda crappy should I still place it at the bottom to see how it likes the light there or should I start at the top and move it down?

Thanks!

Thanks!!

Here's a photo of it :)

I'm so excited :)

I would set it somewhere in the lower to mid range, because they will spread, and most like to spread upwards towards the light. Soon your tank will have mushrooms all over. Trust me! lol

Yeah thats what I was thinking too. I have a nice piece of flat rock that is outcropped in the mid range. Thought it would be a good place to put it.

Do they look fairly healthy? At least to my eyes they did. They're supposedly from Tonga. Really loved the colour combos.

Now as far as phytoplankton/food goes, since my tank is fairly new should I feed more often? Already have my trusty turkey baster hehehe

I have alot of fish, so I rarely feed my tank phyto, and if I try to spot feed, the fish just take it away from them. You can feed them, just don't overdo it, once or twice a week.

Sounds good! I don't have many fish yet. 2 damsels and a gold striped maroon clown. Trying to take things slowly so I don't have any expensive mess ups.

This same person had some beautiful orange and blue florida ricordia I would've gone for too but I figured I'd start with one and see how it goes :)

I'd say!!! They look beautiful though! I've really fallen in love with SPS and softies, but obviously SPS are out of the question for a while until I can get a MH lamp.

That's why I say, start them lower, and if they do good they will spread and you will still have room up top for the acros.
Good luck.

BRADLEYJ your tank is unbelievable!!!!!!!!!!!! I love it!!! I wish i had all those type of rics and shrooms in my tank, since they are my favorite corals. Wow... your tank is an inspiration!!

Well my shrooms came. I'll get a photo tomorrow when I get a chance. It's taken them a couple days to open up and one of the purple ones is a bit injured from shipping but hopefully it'll come back alright. I've also got 3 hitchiker zoanthids on the rock as well that are pretty.

All in all I'm really happy with these corals and the service I got from Reef Gardener on eBay. They still aren't completely open but are looking more at ease each day! So far so good! I'll keep ya updated on how it goes!

Well here's a few photos. They're not very good because my camera is acting funny. It's not wanting to focus in very well or go into it's digital zoom so I need to figure it out. Also my lights aren't very good, only running PCs. Can't wait for my MH ballast for xmas :D :D The purple one that looks like it got injured is on the front right. You can see it's almost bleached looking. Any suggestions on what I could do to ease it along in healing? I've fallen in love with the blueish-purple, the turquoise, and that one in the front middle with the spots. All in all they're looking okay though!
