Mussels

Recently been noticing a lot of little mussels like things all over my rocks. Some are the size a grain of rice , others are bigger. Has to be like 15-20 probably more that I can't see.

I did get rocks from Indonesia. Any chance they are breeding in the tank or just been there

Only thing is haven't added any new rock to my tank in probably 9 months at least. How did these tiny ones get there ?

Mussels

I used to have the normal clams, none of them lived long in my tanks. I think mussels too are filter feeders like the clams. They need very high nutritious water with large amount of plankton and other microscopic free-floating lives. Usually our tank water can't support them because it's too "œclean".

But your system seems to work so congrats!

They just need a very established system... my biocube is about 4 years old and I have a few big mussels living in it that I got from my lfs who has a bunch of them for like a dollar or two each

Yes I understand how they live. Was wondering if they could breed in tank since I have a lot and maybe are tiny. Few are big. They seem to grow fast

It's possiable, could you post a pic of the smaller ones? I have a few in one of my systems but they are all between an inch and 3.

I'll try to get a picture. They are tiny probably smaller than your pinkie nail. The biggest is about the size of quarter

Also it's amazing how they can move around.

Here is one I just found. Too small imo to be in my tank for 9 months

No, but it is a true mussel, maybe Septifer genus.

Pagojoe. Can these breed in home aquariums.

I have found a ton of these ranging from rice size to half dollar sizes

I did used to get boxes of corals from indo but haven't gotten any since the ban. For the babies ones to be hitchhiker seems odd to me
