Must have inverts!

I'm curious about everyone's take on some must have inverts. I just picked up a tiger pistol shrimp, and am attempting to pair him with a watchman goby. I've also got a Halloween crab, electric blue legged hermit crab, emerald crabs. Nasarious snails and a money cowrie snail. I also have the typical snails, blue legged hermits and a peppermint shrimp.

I'd like to eventually add some cooler inverts that are reef and fish safe. Thoughts?

Thanks in advance!

I have a couple of porcelain crabs, reef safe and always see them filtering the water column.

goby/shrimp pair is cool. I have a yasha goby with a randalls pistol shrimp.

I too have a tiger shrimp and he recently got a buddy, yellow watchman that is really gray. They are best friends from first sight. The go y will not leave the tiger shrimp hole and he even made the opening bigger for the goby.

I really want to purchase the porcelain crab. Had one for a few stays but he died for unknown reasons.

I have a couple electric blues, blue leg, and scarlet crabs along with a few starfish. I used to keep emerald crabs but they get large and I didn't trust them around the acros and SPS. I would get another pistol shrimp if it wasn't for all the digging. They are very cool, especially when paired with a goby. My peppermint shrimp are always pregnant. The hermits will always take care of any upside down snails so be aware. You have a good cleanup crew. JP

I can't imagine a reef aquarium without inverts. I always got to have a few hermit and smaller snails, and maybe a shrimp if the tank permits.

I originally bought 4 over a year ago, and i'm only able to find 2. They especially go crazy when i put coral frenzy or reef roids in the water.

I picked the randalls pistol shrimp for it's small size, but man, even as small as he is, he can move some sand!:spin2:

Thanks for your input guys. I attempted to add an anenome crab. But he didn't last long. I already have a pair of clowns hosting my RBTA. They recently just laid eggs, I'm curious if they didn't want the crab near them for their eggs safety. I would really like to try another one some day. But am nervous about the clowns attacking it.

Did the clowns literally kick the crab out? picked him to death?

Good things to know. Thanks

Does anyone know if anemone crabs will host a mini maxi anemone?

fire shrimp... i think they are just a stunning animal. very cool treat to see them haul arse out of a hole and try to grab up food when you kinda forgot you have them.

Lol, I just wrote a few paragraphs of information responding to you guys, then my iPad died in the middle. Lol. I'll make it shorter this time...

Kalakuhan,

I'm not sure what happened exactly, the most recent crab didn't ever host my RBTA. But he was in the neighborhood. I noticed a couple times that the clowns scared him into a hole. Keep in mind, he was also missing an arm and a couple legs, so he wasn't ale to defend himself properly. Then a week later I noticed a few limbs sitting in the sand below the anemone. I hoped he had just molted, but haven't seen him since. I did have another anemone crab host my RBTA. unfortunately when my wife and I had our 1st child, I neglected the tank and forgot several feedings a week. Needless to say I lost the crab, 2 tangs, a wrasse and a lot of coral. I later discovered at I had a bad case of red turf algae that I believe my tangs were keeping in check until I stopped feeding and they died. It took me about 9-10 months to figure that out and get the tank back on track. Worry to get off topic. But that's how I lost the 1st anemone crab. Otherwise he and the clowns were perfectly happy sharing the RbTA.

Stevo9043,

That appears to be the same tiger shrimp I just picked up. He is pretty cool. He moved some sand the 1st couple days getting his home ready, but I haven't seen him in a while. He is hanging out quite a bit in his new hole. I'm attempting to host him with a yellow watchman goby (with little blue spots). But he keeps going into my overflow and is giving me a hard time. The tiger/tiger combination sounds sweet. Hope you have better luck than me.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions, I think my next invert will be a fire shrimp. But I wouldn't mind trying a Randall's pistol shrimp either.

What is everyone's thoughts on adding a coral banded shrimp? I currently already have a peppermint shrimp and the tiger pistol shrimp. It seems some people have had success adding a coral banded shrimp with peppermints and/or tiger pistol shrimp. I think I would also like to add a fire shrimp. Would adding a coral banded shrimp be too much? I've also heard of cases where coral banded shrimps kill other smaller shrimp in the tank.

Any experience or thoughts out there? Thanks

I've seen CBS munching on smaller peppermint before.

Hey i just picked up some electric blue hermit crabs last week from aquarius.
They're pretty cool looking. Waiting for them to get some halloween hermits.

I have seen anemone crabs take to maxi mins. They generally prefer a larger host anemone; rbta's, s. hadonnis, lta's, etc.

How long have you had the sand sifting star? Everything I've read has said that you must have a large system in order for them to survive. Additionally they eat all living, beneficial organisms in the sand. Just curious.

I've had him for 4-5 months - I tend to overfeed, so maybe that helps.

I love goby/shrimp pairs although I have yet to see a pair. I usually only see them in separate tanks. Just another reason I am super excited to get my tank done!
