What causes paly's to mutate?

I have a colony of what used to be a red people eater w/the neon green mouth. They have mutated over the last four years or so into some crazy looking paly's. The lashes have doubled up so they now have a second set of lashes around the first set. They have changed color to almost a baby blue color with speckles.

A change in lighting will change a Zoas appearance. Say going from compacts to halides. Also tank placement plays a key role.

I have these in three different places in my tank. top, middle, bottom. They've all taken on the same characteristics.

I wish you had a before pic. Are you sure they weren't browned out when you got them and appeared to be RPE's and they took a long time to color up. Either way they look real nice so its a win-win situation.

I actually do have some pictures when they were red. I've had these for 4-5years so it took quite a while for them to change into that color. I actually like them much better with the new colors. RPE's are easy to find.
