My $1.98 chiller

I while back I was reading Borneman's book and it said Corals are -probably kept best at 80 - 82, so I have not ben too concerned about temp. Well, I checked the temp tonight and it was 88! Fortunately, the corals seemed happy and so did the fish. I threw a bunch of sw I had in the freezer, filled two 2L soda bottles with fresh water and set he freezer to "super freeze."

I wound up changing about 2 gallons of sw with ice cold sw from the freezer (free - and naturally I refilled with tank water to freeze some more for tomorrow) and filled a plastic bag with ice from the freezer, tied off and floated that. THe temp was down to 85 in about 3 hours ................ I guess I learned to (1) check the temp more often and (2) save for a chiller!

Now I have to put a soda bottle in the fuge ........... oh, and I have a super powerful fan sucking in the "cool" outside air to my fuge where (I hope) the cheap $8 KMart fans blow enoug down on the water to drop the temp. Actually, the cheap fansreally are effective! Live and learn.
