My 125gal Dream

Okay so got the WP40 on Friday, let it run for the weekend before writing my short review here so I could have at least more than a few minutes worth of experience. Yes the pump is very powerful. Pushes water much more forcefully than an MP40. Notice I said forcefully. The MP40 pushes a lot of water but is much more gentle in it's approach. The WP40... More like a push from a sumo. Definitely something I will point nowhere near corals. With that said, I had to tune it down because the flow was hurting my acropora millepora frags to the point where their "skin" began to peel... After moving them away and reducin the flow, they are now recovering. So if you're looking for an inexpensive way to add a ridicous amount of flow I definitely recommend the WP40. Just point it away from corals lol! Now for some cons. Bulky... Very... That's about it. And the build definitely shows for its in-expensiveness. Besides that, can't beat it for the price and definitely gets the job done for me so far.
 
You forgot to mention the WP40 is almost dead silent. The used MP40 I just installed, I wouldn't call noisy, but I can defiantly hear it.
I have to be right next to the tank and really listen close to hear my WP40.
 
Thanks EPRuss, totes forgot about that"¦ yes the MP40 is loud"¦ there are ways to make it "less" loud (not quite silent) but event then you can still hear a humming sound, especially when it hits the higher flow rates. A big downfall to the MP40.
 
I haven't tried it yet, but I believe you can use an inline 12/24 volt dimmer to control the WP40, and dial in the flow more to your liking.
 
Long due update

Long due update

For anyone still following, long overdue update lol. Tank has been doing OK. Had a phosphate issue I couldn't control and had to result to a band-aid solution for the time being since I've been working too much. Bought a Phosban reactor 150 and 150g of phosban, only used about 100g however. After a few days phosphates are undetectable. So obviously the stuff works. Have a small problem tho; some corals love it, others hate it and some have lost their vibrant colors, while others have gained nice coloring. I also noticed my alkalinity and calcium has finally started being used up more by the corals as I've seen a significant drop. Anyone have any advice? I guess I don't really have a problem but I miss the bright red my montipora frag had before (looking bland now).
 
If you added gfo and dropped nutrients really quick you will see a change in your corals. You are suppose to add gfo slowly.
 
Hmm didn't think of that. I thought I was on the clear by adding only almost 2/3 of the media but I guess I was wrong... Would it be safe to take some of the media out now or should I just leave it alone and see how it plays out?
 
Well I had ordered 9 frags and so far 7 of them survived but not bad. The frags were ridiculously tiny so I'm surprised they're still alive. They've all colored up but because of my phosphate issue (I think) they haven't really grown much except for one of the encrusting pieces. I have kept them all at the tank bottom the whole time so that may also be a reason for the lack of growth.
