My 130 Gal Reef Build

I have a similar setup in my canopy. If I may make some recommendations:

1) cutout as much of the board interior as you can. this will help reduce weight and increase the airflow potential around the lighting components.

2) install multiple sets of drawers rails at different heights in the canopy. for example, my canopy has three different height options for the lighting board. this makes it easy to adjust the height of the lights. I suppose a pulley system would allow for more fine tuned control of the height, but I've experienced no limitations with the 3 sets of rails that I have.

stand is looking good!

Awesome I appreciate the recommendations Ikserk. I actually put this thread up http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2387028 to get suggestions on my lighting set up. I was thinking the same thing, cutting out as much as I can to vent it. I was planning on cables and pulleys as well :)

Thanks

Love the large tank. Also the tank stand. Really good stuff.:D I'm a little jealous. I'm stuck in a budget freeze and can't really do much. :rolleye1:
I hate to say it but I think you might want to change out some of your ideas.... It really looks like you have way too little flow going through the overflow. It's similar to the siphon style [that I hate] in my tank in that way. If it were mine I would want about double the surface area for the box, and add way more water volume. You could also install an Oceans Motions device in the "T" on your return.
I don't know what kind of corals and fish you want to keep, but recent upgrades to LED's have made MHL lamps virtually obsolete. I wish you the best of luck in wherever your personal preference takes you, but I honestly think a little more research is needed. Just a little constructive criticism. Again. Good luck.
Snoop around on other peoples builds like me, and see what is working out for them...

Got some of the lights hung. Decided to keep it bare bottom.

I decided to do bare bottom.

And as far as the lighting, I'm just doing brackets holding the lights instead of a complete board. Easier to vent heat. Thanks for the input guys.

Dude, build looks great. Nice work o the stand!

Ever think about making your own acrylic sump? Would be a nice touch to this already killer setup.

Thank you. Maybe at some other point but for now the 40 breeder does fine.

Looks amazing keep it up ! What you going to have for stock wise ?
Not too sure on that yet.

Looks great so far. Got a question. How far down to the center of your holes? And are those 1" bulkheads or 1"1/2?
I believe it's 1 1/2" down. They're 1" bulkheads.

Nice work so far. What's your wolf knife name, or is it better left unsaid on a family forum?
Thanks. Ha, it's a crew started by a guy named Jason Ellis. He has a really funny show on sirius radio that I listen to.

Oh, I'm quite familiar with ellismate, been listening to him for a few years now. Did you call in and get a wolf knives named assigned to you?

Ohhh, shoot I misread your previous question. Sorry bout that. I did get a wolfknife name. Tully actually kinda came up with it which kinda ****ed me off but whatever. I put down that I was a honda technician so he gave me "Bridget Honda". Pretty boring and lame. Haha

That's funny. But whatever man, it could be a lot worse! Good luck with the build, I'm subscribed so I can remember to check on it from time to time.

Got a few friends from AA the other day. This weekend hopefully I will be finishing the canopy.

This is a snail that I got from Jerms01 when I grabbed some sand and chaeto for my sump.

A bit more progress on the top. Still need to fill in the 3 spaces on the front doors.

Heres the cuts for the frames of the cabinet doors

Put together and held up by magnets so doors can be completely removed for easy access.

The tank is coming along nicely. Haven't lost anything do to poor water parameters. Although, I'm not having any luck with clownfish. I bought a pair of them and the female decided to hop into the overflow and get stuck in one of the siphon pipes. Went out and got another one and she thought it'd be fun to hop on the center glass brace and get a tan. Found her the next morning hard as a rock :( So, my male is alone again. I put a makeshift guard on the overflow and I'm gonna make a screen to put over the entire top of the water. Anyway, here's some pics of the tank recently.
