O.k so my new tank has been up and running for almost 2 weeks, livestock was transferred from my 4x2x2 this is where I am at now, and how I got there, the story goes like this....

After much deliberation I decided on a 36"x24"x36" (LxHxW) display tank, this tank would be rimless/braceless, with central weir. I am going with the twin standpipe method so I will have two 40mm drains and one 25mm return, the sump will be 30"x18"x20" (LxHxW) and a very simple design, two chambers the first where the skimmer and zeovit reactor will be then a standard three baffle over, under, over bubble trap leading into the return chamber.

System specs:

Main tank - 36"x24"x36"
Sump tank - 30"x18"x20"

Return Pump:

Eheim 1262.

Lighting:

Giesemann infiniti 1x250w hqi + 4x24w T5's
hqi bulb = 14000k T5 lamps = 2x pure actinic and 2 x aquablue +

Filtration:

50kg Liverock.
40lbs Caribsea aragalive sand to create a shallow sand bed. 20lbs Bahamas Oolite, 20lbs Special grade reef sand.
20lbs KZ Coral Sand.
100/200 micron filter socks.
ATB Small cone Skimmer, rated at 1500 litres.
KZ Zeovit basic 4 system (stones, zeobak, zeostart2 and zeofood7) I will be running 1.2l of stones through a KZ easylift magnetic Zeovit reactor, I have changed out the aquabee up 1000 pump for an Eheim 1048.
KZ Activated Carbon.

Wavemaking:

1x Tunze turbelle stream 2 6085.
1x Tunze turbelle stream 2 6105, controlled with the Tunze single controller 7091.

Auto Top up:

Aquamedic SP3000 Niveaumat, supplied by a 20l RO reservoir. this will be upgraded to the Tunze auto top off soon.

Heating:

2x 300w Hydor Theo heaters.

Supplementation:

KZ Calcium reactor S.
All other elements will be kept in check by weekly 10% water changes using KZ Reefers Best Salt.

Livestock:

Fish:

1x Powder Blue Tang
1x Yellow Tang
2x Percula Clowns
1x Royal Gramma
1x Yellow watchman goby
1x yellowtail Tamarin wrasse

and will be adding a harem of 4 Lyretail Anthias.

Corals will consist of 90% SPS, mostly staghorn type Acropora Sp. With LPS corals making up the other 10% these will be mostly Acans and Lobophyllia's placed on the sandbed.

Picture of some of the equipment.

A couple shots of the tank as it arrived, I had it unloaded onto the garden as I wanted to get the tank painted and the weir covered in acrylic by the end of the day it arrived.

After a couple of layers of paint, the two painted sides will be against a wall in the corner, a shame on a cubed tank but nowhere else for it to go.

Next up was to cut the black acrylic to size and silicone onto the weir, after this,

I ended up with something like this.

The sump, like I said very simple design.

The stand was the next job.
D.I.Y stand built from 3x3 timbers, 18mm plywood top and bottom and clad in 15mm mdf, have not yet got the front panels sorted.

Mounted the lights.

Brought the tank into its final resting place.

Then transferred liverock and fish over from my old tank, excuse the rubbish pictures they are all taken on my phone camera.

The idea was to keep the rockwork open, there is 6-8 inches of free space all around, the rockwork is just a base for my corals and once grown in they will make up the aquascape so I tried to have lots of overhangs for coral placement and also kept the rockwork pretty low to allow for coral growth, there is 10 inches from the top of my rockwork to the weir comb. This is not the final design of the rock I may change it up a bit.

That takes us up to today :D the water params have settled and are all with the perfect range for using zeovit so I have started my dosing, here is my current regime;

I have 1ltr of zeolites in my reactor with a flow of 400lph through them. Agitating them 2-3 times daily.

I have 250ml of KZ activated carbon running passively in a nylon sock in the sump.

I am dosing 4 drops of ZeoBak and 4 drops of ZeoFood7 daily as well as 0.35ml of ZeoStart2, 2 times daily. This is for the first 2 weeks then I will readjust my dosing, and add ino this some other zeo suppliments.

The next step is to get some nice SPS frags in there, sit back and watch them develop into fraggable colonies.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks for looking,
Paul.

I wanted a complete restock of corals so I only kept hold of a couple of LPS this is my favourite that I have at the minute, an Aussie Lobophyllia.

Beautiful tank.
If I could, I'd have a tank with those same dimensions. It just sounds perfect for aquascaping.
I love how you did the light cord! It's much less obtrusive.
And I like your rockscape lots, it looks like you have some caves for the fish.
I can't wait to see your lps on the sand bed. I love lps.
I had a thread here once for all 36x36 and 30x30 owners, and so now I can stare at your thread here too.

OMG, that lobo! Sooo pretty. I love those colors.

Re: cube

Re: cube

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I have been planning this tank for a while so I have a good idea on how I want it to look. Can't wait to start putting some frags in there.

very nice, im waiting for my 2x2x2cube as well, who built yours.

It was made by an independant tank maker over here in the U.K.
Just one guy who has been making aquariums for 35yrs, he was very good to deal with.

I thought the ATB smalls used Red colored materials?

Great looking tank by the way and nice equipment choices.

Thanks.

As far as I know red materials are used for U.S ATB's and white materials are used for EU ATB's.

The EU small cone is the same size as the U.S medium cone.

Fingers crossed he won't jump before it is completed, so far whenever he has been startled he has dived downwards nor up.

Great looking build!
