My 14 gallon Oceanic Bio Cube-Lots of Pics

After I had a JBJ that decided to crack on day two I decided to go with the 14 gallon oceanic bio cube that just came out. It took some searching but I found one and drove a short ways to get ahold of it. For now it will hold 2 clownfish, 1 emerald crab, green star polyps, pulsing xenia and one mushroom. The tank has 48 watts of lighting and 2 moonlights that are surprisingly bright. The filtration is a little different than the JBJ in that it comes in through the top of the water and the bottom of the tank, then flows through a filter pad, then goes down a drip tray through bio balls to a pump which returns it to the display tank. Here's some pics so you can check it out for yourselves.

I don't want to show too much so I'll post some more pics with stuff in it tomorrow!

Glad to hear that your getting your hobby back together. The new Oceanic is a good choice quality wise and you can report to us any significant diffirences or improvements versus JBJ or Aquapod especially since you have experience. I am glad for you and hope you were able to get a refund or some satisfaction from the cracked tank. If not, let me know as I have been a lawyer for over 30 years. Sometimes just a letter on legal stationary can make things happen!

I am glad you were able to post pics about this tank. I also recently got one but have not had time to post pics. What marine life are you going to put into your cube?

Just picked up the bio cube as well. I can't leave anything the way it comes, so I already did some mods to it. I got rid of the drip tray and bioballs. Got rid of the stock pump and added a maxijet 1200, but had to open up the slots a little bit going into the second chamber so it could keep up with the maxijet. Now the second chamber is full and can be used as a refugium. I also added one of those hydro flows to it. It works perfectly for these smaller nanos.

Alright, heres some more pics of everything in it...I think I'm gonna take the huge rock on the left out and put smaller ones in its place...its just too big and makes aquascaping pretty difficult. But for the time being here it is...Oh yea, who thinks I should ditch the bio balls and fill it with live rock rubble instead????

Tell me what you guys think!

hi mate,

sorry for my bad english. i have a question:

how long did you wait until you put the liverock in? did you mix the water or where did you get it from? here in germany we normally wait at least a month until we put fish on, so the water parameters can get the right level...

regards, dangpride

Personally i like that large rock it has definite character.
I would ditch the bioballs and go with rubble like you asked it will allow you to use more water in the back and better placement of the heater from what i have read.

Wet/Dry filtration is great for fish only tanks, but not recommended for reef tanks. Not to mention getting rid of the bioballs gives you a lot more options because you can fill up the other two chambers. Eventually, you can even make the second chamber a refugium if you wanted to.

dangpride, im sure this has come from an established tank. if it was not, the clowns would have already perished im sure.

Dangpride-thanks for the concern, and yes I had everything in an established system before this and took everything from that system and put it into this one before I added anything.

hey i have the same tank. do you think that the 138 gph ( i think thats it) is enough for a reef, i added another 200GPH powerhead i wasent sure if just the return pump was enough

Ryan

I want to up the pump too it defintely seems like it could use it, how is it with the 200 GPH pump? Does it drain the back too quickly? What brand is it?

well i have two going, i have the original pump in the back and then another powerhead in the front, so the 138GPH + the 200 GPH i dont remember what brand it is but it definatly makes a huge difference

Did you just put the other pump inside the display or did you plumb it into the back area? I was thinking if I took out some of the bio balls and replaced it with live rock I could maybe drill a hole in the wall and put a pump back there.
