My 150G Build Thread

Wow Sweet, I had no idea that you were working on such a project. Is this up and running yet, assuming that we will preview this with the LED Solaris, drooool.....

Great news to hear Dan! The more I look at the plumbing, I may chance things up a bit. I may put the end port plumbing to a 45 degree angle instead of it running horizontal and then 90ing up. It may help a bit on head loss. Im still debating if I should drill one more port in the front center to be tapped from the back center. My plumbing plans change a bit from what I originally planned awhile back. im not going to drill the bottom anymore. With my current Tunze and this CL configuration, I should have more than enough flow.

Looks very good to me Russ, just remember 90's reduce less flow than two 45's put together as a 90 :)
But a 45 by itself will always be better than a 90 ofcourse.
I think it looks good and if you are considering adding a port, I say ball valve it off and do it! you know its much easier to have an extra now then to add it once the tank is up and running.

That is sweet, Russ. Nice and clean. How many total ports are you anticipating barring the front center? I see 5, but can't tell if there are 2 more left and right of back center. I assume your running a Hammerhead on the loop. Any chance to maybe have it glued for a fresh water test by Saturday? I would to see the surface agitiation.

Ill have 3 returns off the Dart. The end will have 2 ports and the center will have 1 maybe 2. Havent really decided yet. But the hole is drilled for the second if I choose to do it or go ahead and plumb it and shut off the valve as Chris suggested. I wont have it totally plumbed by the meet. I still have to paint the back and spray some foam in the inside back to cover the overflow. That would take a while to cure.

Back of the tank is painted with Krylon Fusion. Took 2 cans.

How well is the foam going to hold up to the salt water environment?

Is it Great Stuff foam or some special kind?

Is it water proof or will it fill up like a sponge?

Will it need to be coated with some kind of epoxy?

It looks like the waterfall foam for ponds?.........If so that stuff loves water in fact it adheres better to things when applied over a wet surface, even can be applied underwater! Just don't get any on your fingers or it will be on them for a month or so!

Its called Handy Foam. It is typically used for ponds. There is some reefers here on RC who uses it. Even this months TOTM has it covering its entire back wall. Its been in there for over 2 years now. I wont be coating it with any epoxy. It does becomes inert once its fully cured. Once corraline starts growing on it and few frags mounted on it, I think it will look sharp. Yup, I got some on my hands and it wont wash off. LOL! A can doesnt go a long way though. Thats all I got from 2 cans. Its a bit of a pain to work with but not to bad. Just gotta make sure not too many big bubbles form cuz it can make it very bouyant. I had to keep mashing it down to minimize air pockets.

I used the same stuff in one of my dart frog vivs. It looks really good but the cans are expensive for what it is. I think I paid like $20 a can but that was down here.
