Next steps:
Finish the stand
Run the new Electrical in the house
Prep the sump room

Thank you =) I have some help showing up today, we are going to put the stand back together (I don't have the correct saws for the job) and maybe at least get the electrical lines dropped into the walls (neither of us want to put our hands into the breaker box) =).

A question

A question

Great job so far. I am finding your thread VERY useful. I am setting up my first reef tank--- I was wondering, aside from the sump, where else do you use silicon? Is silicone need to install the bulkheads?

No, if you look at the original plumbing you will see they siliconed the bulkheads. This is incorrect. You need to make sure that the rubber O ring is on the INSIDE of the tank, then do not over tighten the bulkhead fitting. If you overtighten it may "tweak" rubber gasket and it will leak. None of your plumbing should need silicone.

So for all of you playing along at home.... What color should I paint or stain this stand?!? I have no idea.... I was thinking black myself but I am open to anything... Within reason =)

Help me decide!

IMO I would stain It, It will come out alot nicer and be alot more eye apealing. Black just reminds me of the stands at pet supermarket. Inless your favorite color Is black then by all means paint It. Just my 2 cents. Coming along nicely:thumbsup:

Ok I think I might be crazy.... but..... it looks like on Saturday I'm going to drive 1.25hrs to get 70lbs of live rock for $100, then 3.75hrs for 300lbs of Southdown sand for $120, then 5hrs home.... Hmm....... We'll see if the Southdown deal goes through though, kinda iffy on that trip but I have someone who will buy a couple bags to help with the gas cost.

I might be able to get my hands on some southdown for you. I'm in Pittsburgh which is like 2.5 hrs away from you. I have a friend who stockpiled some who he got from a friend's friend who got it back when it was available. I go and take care of his tanks tomorrow so I'll see if I can if you want me to. I can probably get 6 40-50 lb. bags.

t11t5, Yes I did get the pic. I went another direction though. I bought a 8 bulb T5 setup. Thank you though for the offer.

Jer77, please do check on that Southdown for me!

Thinslis, I went with the 72" Aquacinics Constellation. I cant wait to see your set-up when it running. Goodluck.

I rok at Paint also LOL. I have a suggestion. Move over the single baffle 1 3/4" closer to the other baffles. Or leave it, but then set it up like this.

This will keep your fuge critters out of the skimmer. Also will be able to control the flow of water to the refugium. You should also put ball valves on all out coming plumbing. This will allow you to stop all the water in case you need to without breaking the siphon. Plumb the two bulkheads separate like the graph shows. One on a T+ ballvalve going to the fuge section. Just a thought.

Thinslis. Here is a ATO for sale. I use the same one on my 150. I love it and have had absolutely no issues with it. Just trying to help.......
