My 190 gallon build

nice wood work man! this is one of my favorite parts of any fish tank is the designing and building everything. keep us updated!

It has been a while. I decided that I didnt like my floors. Since this tank is too big to slide around, the floors had to be done first. I did the floors myself, so thats why its taking so long. Now, back to the tank.

update: here is where I am now.

At the moment I am waiting. The sump is a standard 55 gallon. I plan on part of the sump being a frag tank. RLSS has rubbed me the wrong way, so I decided to go with a Super Reef Octo for now. Probably the SRO3000 internal. After realizing the size of this skimmer, I am worried that there wont be much room for a frag section in the sump. Now I am thinking of the external SRO3000. There is room for the external, but I dont know if I can place an external at the same height as the sump. Im not sure if the external skimmers have to be above the sump to avoid overflow issues. Depending on the answers will depend on the skimmer. Monday I make phone calls. For now, I wait.

Almost done with the plumbing. There are 3 x 1" drains and 2 x 3/4 returns. Just got my new toy in today. SRO 3000 int. Also, will be running a Waveline 6000.

Now its time for a beer

A home made stand to keep my skimmer at 6.5" of water.

A 55 gallon tank for my sump. 1st chamber will be a chateo factory, 2nd will be for frag racks, 3rd is a skimmer section with black acrylic to keep the skimmer free of coraline algae, and the last chamber will be the return and a float for ato.

To complete the sump is the frag rack for chamber #2.

Next on the list is to anchor the tank to the wall, followed by rock work, then water.

Looking good. What lights are you planning to use for the frag section in the sump?
Thanks, It's a 4 bulb t5. I believe it's an 18" Odyssea. I know odyssea has a bad rap, but I have been running one on my 72 gallon since the begining (4 years). The idea is that the light will cover the refugium and the frags.

This is my own design, so many may disagree. The plan is to have chaeto only in the first chamber. There is a partition that I have placed there to keep the chaeto at bay. The water will flow under the partition, into the frag section. There is another partition with a sponge. That partition is higher up so that dirt and waste will hopefully collect against the partition wall, which I can vacuum periodically. My plan is to avoid filters that need to be replaced.

this build is quite impressive
Thanks, It's been a long time since the start. Finally I starting to see some reward.

While not needing to be replaced, you'll have to be sure to keep the sponge clean. Why do you need it?

There are actually 2 sponges. One after the frag section, and one before the return. I really want to keep the return pump clean since the return goes straight to the manifold. The manifold will eventually go to a GFO and Carbon reactor. In the past I have had a lot of crap get into the reactors and I want to avoid that from happening. I'm trying something new, which is trying to avoid a filter sock.
