My 20H Build

Our new additions are doing well. They're keeping the algae away, for now.

What should we do next? We definitely want some coral and, of course, fish. What kind of corals can we keep with the 96W PC light? I'm guessing zoas, mushrooms, GSP, etc. Any suggestion on a good "first coral". We are planning on upgrading the lighting sometime in the future, either T5 or possibly a DIY LED setup.

We know we want a pair of Ocellaris Clowns and a Goby/Pistol Shrimp pair. We're planning on adding the clowns before the goby/shrimp. We would add two small clowns at the same time. In terms of tank progress, should we add the clowns next, or can/should we add some coral next and wait a little longer on the fish?

Thanks for the help!

We had something interesting happen last night. We came home about an hour after the lights had shut off and turned on the kitchen light; it lit the tank up a little. Everything in the tank seemed normal; the snails were cruising around and the shrimp where out. After a few minutes there were a bunch of little things floating in the water and the peppermint shrimp were moving all around the tank (more than normal). We turned on the tank light to see what the floating things were. There were about 50, of what looked like, tiny shrimp. They were probably only 1-2 mm long. They were almost entirely clear, but I could make out a fanned tail like a shrimp, a body, and small legs that were definitely moving.

Any ideas? We think they were baby peppermint shrimp.

We have fish!! We have 2 Ocellaris Clowns. They look like they might already be a pair. One is larger than the other, and they are always near one another. The small one's dorsal fin is a little picked at (didn't realize till we got home) but he seems happy and active as can be. Hopefully I'll have some good pictures this weekend.

We're trying to come up with ideas for the rest of our fish. We decided against the YWG/Pistol Shrimp combo. We're thinking about adding (in several weeks/months) 1 or 2 more fish. We like Purple Firefish, Clown Gobies, Green Chromis, and several other small gobies. What would go well with 2 Ocellaris?

We're also looking at starting with some coral; maybe this weekend. We'll probably start with some kind of zoa or other polyp. We'll keep you updated and try to get some more pictures of the tank; there's a lot of new growth on the rocks!

It's been a long time since an update, but this one will definitely be worth it.

We still have the 2 Clowns. They are doing well. We have also added some coral. We have a rock with some green mushrooms on it. Some type of green zoas, and a little frag of some green star polyps.

The tank is doing excellent so far. All our chemical levels are great. We have a bit of a cyano problem right now, but we're working on that. We added a modded AC110 for a refugium. We got a piece of "Dragons Breath" for some macro algae.

We changed the lighting. We got a 4x24W 24" T5 Light. I have ordered some new bulbs. 2 x ATI Blue Plus, 1 x ATI Aquablue Special, and 1 x ATI Purple Plus.

We're still trying to figure out what we want to add in the way of another fish or 2. Any suggestions?

Now, the pictures!

I have some videos of the tank.

Here's a full tank video from last weekend. Since then, we've added a Torch and a Xenia. Do the Torch and Xenia appear to have the correct amount of flow?

The videos were taken in the morning, right after the lights turn on. The corals look much better after some time with the lights on. And don't mind the cyano :headwallblue:

Not much has changed with the tank in the past few days. We had a peppermint shrimp die on us. Not sure why, it was sitting very still for quite a while and started to turn white inside. We later found it dead on a rock. It definitely wasn't a molt. Everything else is doing fine.

We got some new bulbs for our T5 fixture. (2) ATI Blue Plus, (1) ATI Purple Plus, (1) ATI Aquablue Special. We are having a bit of an issue with cyano. We have pretty good flow and have cut feeding to the minimum we feel comfortable with. Should we reduce the light cycle? Right now, it's the two ATI Blue Plus for 12hrs and all four lights for 8hrs.

do it for 8 and 6 hours, if that doesnt work try 6 and 5. the tank is looking great :) your torch is getting way too much flow IMO but the xenia are fine :)
looking forward to seeing more from your tank!

We've bumped down the lighting cycle to 10 and 6. We'll trying cutting it down some more. We've also moved the torch since that video. It seems to like it much better. It's extending a lot more.

Thanks for the compliments!

Update

The tank is doing fairly well. We've got a bit of a Cyano problem at the moment. We recently got a new puppy, so it's been neglected a bit. Everyone is still alive and happy though. Hopefully we'll get the cyano cleaned up soon and post some more pictures.
