my 255 starfire ocean upgrade!

I know................this thread is in need of a really big update!!!

I have been working on setting up a FOWLR tank and have been building the stand and getting it ready for a huge fish order manana!!! I have like 15 fish coming in:eek2:

The reef tank is getting:
Pair of orange diamond gobies-----------a bit of sand sifting!
4 Fire fish
Pair melanurus wrasses
5 bar mystery wrasse
2 Swalesi basslet
Maculiceps Tang
Male Exquisite wrasse
Red Sea regal angelfish

The FOWLR is getting:
Volitan lionfish
Sm. harlequin tusk
3 long nose butterflys
Pair of flame Anglefish

The reef is doing great:celeb1: We finally after like 2 months got our internet and home phone issues worked out with att. So, I still need to get the apex running and my calcium reactor. Dosing by hand sucks:thumbdown

I'll be sure to take pics. of the fish when they get here

I think when you get the red paint out for the RO/DI plywood, you could put a racing stripe or two on the drums you make your water in, and maybe on the legs under the platform you made for the drums to sit on. Just kidding, maybe not. :) Everything looks great

Great looking set up / your eye for detail makes everything look amazing.
BTW are you going to dose with a reactor or 2 part, on the first pictures you had buckets from BRS.

Funny you say that. I wanted to put the red strip down the mixing drums!!!!!

I was at one point going to dose 2 part but then I got a GEO 618 reactor really cheap and decided to do that. I still need to get a good CO2 regulator!!!!

I was cleaning the glass and decided to bust out some quick pics. I have been super busy with work so the tank has just been chilling for a bit. The frags are growing nicely and need to be mounted as they have overgrown the plugs!!!!

Just a midnight snack!!

Yeah, yeah, I still need to get my frag tank plumbed so that I can finish the rock work and get all the crap off the tank sand and get the ugly racks out of the display.

My regal just upped and died as well:( He was in the qt tank and would start to float vertically??? Might have had some type of decompression issues??? I have no idea really. Oh well, I'll try again:spin2:

tank looks great eran, missing me some clown fishy, your pairs are very nice, what are they called? And are they hosting hammer coral?

They are onyx clowns but the small one is taking a long time to color up. Yeah, they are hosting in the branching hammer coral. They don't stray to far.

Sorry to hear about the Regal, Eran.
It took us four years of searching to find "the one" for our setup!
One question about your sump - I see you've got your skimmer on eggcrate - will you be able to siphon that and keep it clean under there? Or you just planning on pulling it out when you clean it?

i see in the latest pictures that you moved the tunzes, what was the reason, i really liked your idea where you had them

They would pull a vortex of air down and shoot bubbles across the tank when at full power so I moved them down. BUT, I have a buddy that made a little "shield" out of black acrylic that can be glued to the top that blocks the little vortex pulling in air!!!!! he has his attached to his euro bracing just like I did and it only once in a while pulled in air. Works like a charm!!!!!! Mine are on the way:)

I think my wife was more bummed then me. I used to have one last year that got nuked by my nem. getting chopped in my power head:furious: He ate everything and was a great fish.

I just pull everything out and take my 15gal. shop vac to both sumps!!! works like a charm:celeb1:

I see you moved the Tunzes down. Were they not working well for you that close to the top?

see the above explanation!!! I'll take a pic when I get them from my buddy

very nice set up, i like the skimmer. what would you grade your skimmer in the market for one

sorry it has taken me so long to get back. I am a scoutmaster and I'm at scout camp. I finally got my internet connection to work!!!!! I would first say, make sure that you size your skimmer and tank correctly. This skimmer is huge and needs a huge load. I have about 400gals and its pulling over a gallon every 5 days. I still think my system is too small for this skimmer. I would definitely rate the skimmer a 10 for build quality, a 9 for quietness(remember this thing has 2 pumps) and an 8.5 for adjust ability. I have not had any issues after I got it set at the right water level

hey eran, regarding sizing the right skimmer for a size tank, couldn't the 300 be ran with just one pump with water level adjusted accordingly for a smaller size tank?

You know I have never tried. You would definently need to adjust the water level.

Awesome setup! I am really loving the design and structure.

thx sunny! I really need to get on the ball after scout camp next week and get some unfinished projects taken care of so I can finish my rock work and place my corals in a more perminant location.

I've always admired your tank as well!!!
