My 280g Custom upgrade.....

Hey Steve can you please posts pics of your overflow box and stand pipes? I am trying to figure out how I would want mine configured.

Thanks,

Adam

Hey Adam,
Glad to see you tagging along! I know you are trying to decided on your next tank. I have made some changes to the stand pipes and its along the lines of a beananimal set up. I will take better pictures of it later on tonight. One drain is totally open, one is a full siphon and the third drain is emergency overflow.

I am glad you are finally making the transition slowly. Will you transfer all the fish at once or did I miss that already?

Fish havent made the move yet. Since my 80 was packed with coral I knew it would be impossible to get them out with out creating many little frags. I am thinking about moving them over this weekend. Right now this is what I have....

2 perc clowns (that could care less about each other)
Neon Dotty Back
Yellow Tang
Hippo Tang
Lyretail Anthias...somewhere between a male and a female.
Orange Spot Rabbit Fish
Non Aiptasia eating file fish...literally just stares at it.

I am debating whether or not to move the anthias over yet. I want to add 5-7 more lyretails and I am not sure if I should wait to move the one I have now over until I am ready to add the others.

Everyone I've ask about that question says you can easily add them to your school at any point to replace ones that have perished/increase school size. Another RCer that I questioned about it only had a few, and now has a mix of all kinds of anthias with 20+ in a 300+ gallon tank. I plan to add them here and there whenever I get my DT up:(

Dustin are you getting a little anxious there??????? Did we ever establish an approximate date as to when you "think" the beast will be up and running??? What ever that date is, I am taking the under. :lmao:

We'll say Q1 of 2013:D (Lit, aquascaped, TONS of flow, and ready to tie whole system together)

Still have a long road but that's what I'm shooting for... Originally, I just wanted the part of my system I currently have up and running for a year or so and then I'd plumb in tank. Since I picked this tank up cheap, I made the leap and do not have the budget yet to go ahead and buy everything else needed:hmm2:

Moved the rest of my corals over yesterday and then moved the fish this morning. it was almost like the fish new they were going to a new and bigger home.....practically got in the net on their own.

I just tuned the lights on and WOW!!!! THE COLORS OF THE FISH ARE AMAZING UNDER MY LEDS.
I will try for pictures later.

Steve,
Moving along nicely my friend:)

what settings you have now?

I'm at 15% on whites and 45% everything else. Im trying to figure out what the ratio of white to blue should be to achieve a 20k look. Im thinking that since the whites are 10w I need to run them at 2/3's less than the blues. Im running the t5's for three hours. My birdsnest are already sprouting new shoots and all of the just look healthier under this. pe is amazing!

2 kz new generation and 2 kz purple. I think you suggested that. Im really like this light I might sell my 8 bulb 48" t5 fixture I have on the frag tank and get one of their metis hyperion fixtures for it.

Very good light ,i agree.

for my frag tank i am planning to get new GHL LEd , since my tank powered by pofilux . i am sure GHL come up with some latest tech LEds

What i don't understand is 20 channels but I think I read 8 colors correct? so why 20 Channels? I think it will give the radions a run for their especially if they come in cheaper and from what I read....it looks like $600 but don't quote me on that. You really have to see my LEDS first hand to get a good appreciation for them. The one thing that always bothered me about LEDS was the "neon sign" look they created in the tank. These LEDS have such a natural look to them. I know I am biased because I wrote the very big check for them but they really do look amazing.

The latest article on RB outlines it. 20 channels and 8 colors. I believe the channels are split by LEDs so you can fully control each and every LED. I really want to go to MACNA!

MACNA is going to be incredible...I wish I were going. With some of the most powerful players in the salt water business showcasing new LED's it is bound to be an awesome event.

I think GHL is the LED manufacturer to watch. They broke ranks and added a yellow LED to their lamp and I'm curious to see how that does long term. Pacific Sun is a coral wholesaler and has the most experience with LED's and their affect on corals. All biases aside, personal preference is king. Steve you have the best of both worlds with LED's and T5's. Be sure to remember us when your giving thanks in your TOTM write up. :)

Steve, is there any reason why you picked the sand you did? I have the same size and was thinking about slowly going back to the sugar sized sand. I miss my signal gobies and I'm sure my wrasses would like the change as well.

Rodney, Im not a big wrasse or goby fan so I went for the bigger stuff. I knew I wanted to have a lot of flow and was worried about sand storms.
