My 2g tank

Lol! I could swear that Seahorse was dancing!

Very nice, but one question why such a huge change of water on a such a small tank, I mean wasnt that like 50%.

Just curious, not critical, thanks!

Casper is an H. reidi, and I don't know if she has grown any larger since I got her. I guess I need to make some comparisons looking at the images from three months ago.

When I do a water change on this tank, it ends up being 200% normally. I just keep letting it drain halfway and refilling it four times. I do this once a week and the livestock seems to do well with it. Last night I changed about 3g, because I was running out of time and I still wanted to feed Casper & Friends before the lights clicked off.

I've not updated this thread in a few weeks. Not a lot of changes. Fang died, although I don't know what killed him. Either he didn't like Mysis to eat, or the Cleaner Shrimp picked him to death. His skin looked like it had tiny yellow tags all over it, which was similar to Ich but bright yellow instead of white. I don't know what the problem was, but there was no saving the little guy.

For a week, I had a large hungry peppermint in the tank to eat aiptasia, and it ate all but one large beast. I'm going to have to remove that rock and scrape that thing off. The peppermint has been moved to the frag tank.

I did a water change last night, and plucked out a lot of the spreading macro algae in the tank. As I tugged, some rock and zoo frags lifted up in groups, and I found a huge pile of sediment that I siphoned out.

Here are a few pictures of Casper and her home.

The dendrophyllia has a baby at the base now.

I've been working on the tank this week, and it has really annoyed the zoanthids. Many are closed up, but I had to remove a bunch of caulerpa that was spreading everywhere. I did a large water change, but that didn't seem the help. I may have to do one every day for a while to get things back in shape. I lowered the temperature for the past couple of weeks for the seahorse, but it could be the zoanthids hate 75F and would rather be up near 80F like all my other tanks.

I'm about to pull out the cleaner shrimp because it is getting too large for the tank, and didn't want Casper to be all alone. So she has a new friend.

Casper is quite a bit larger than the new one.

Both are tank raised from ORA, and feed on Hikari mysis.

The Dendrophyllia continues to look pretty in this tank.

Looks good.

I set up a 2.5g tank a couple of months ago, and have been thinking of putting in something to "look" at. maybe a seahorse is the ticket.

I agree. However, when I end up changing 5g in one session, that is truly a large water change. :D

The new seahorse really doesn't seem to be doing all that well to me. It seems very shy, disinterested in eating, and tends to stay curled up near the floor of the tank. I have baby brine shrimp bubbling away that will be ready later today, and I'm going to put those in the tank to entice the new horse to eat.

I changed another gallon today, and changed 2g yesterday. I was thinking the water might not be as pure as it needs to be, and it is easier to change water than break out all the test kits. :o

The zoos seem okayish, and the Dendrophyllia is always open. The cleaner shrimp and Casper are both acting perfectly normal and look great.

End of the year update on Casper's Tank:

I checked the water tonight. I knew all was well since the zoanthids are all open and colorful, and Casper looks happy and active.

Temp 79.4
pH 7.95
Nitrate 4ppm
Phosphate .75 (of course)

I don't check Alk, Ca, etc since the abundant water changes keep up with that.

Marc

Any idea why Casper has the dark stripes on its body? Were they always there, or did they appear at some point? I love the tank. I've been trying to get caught up on the 280g thread and this one over the past couple of weeks. Keep up the great work.

Here's Casper when I first got her. She was mostly white at that time, thus the name.

So the stripes were always there, just not as prominent due to her original coloration.

I did add a small acan to this tank, so I need to post that image in this thread now:

Marc, as of tonight, I will be the proud parent of 2 seahorses! :D

I'm going to keep them in the 40 gallon frag tank.
