My 2g tank

Melev you have some great looking stuff. I'm moving to Bedford Tx. this summer, you have to tell me where you get the great looking corals.

Congratulations. What kind did you get? Got a picture yet?
I'm getting them tonight from a fellow reefer at our monthly meeting! :D

One is an erectus and the other a kuda

I'll post some pics tomorrow. :D

I think the Kuda like cooler waters than the Erectus. The experts at Seahorses.org can give you accurate answers. I just know snippets of information currently, but one of the speakers at Next Wave is a seahorse expert and many of us are looking forward to hearing what he has to share.

Marc, (and anyone else interested :D ) They ate some brine shrimp 2 minutes after I put them in the tank! Here are a few pics of my new ponies! :)

Mine tends to sleep at night, but if I turn on the lights in the room she swims back and forth in front as if to indicate "TURN OFF THE LIGHT!" ;)

I have something else I'd like to show you today. I took apart my Pico tank tonight to siphon out all the detritus. My seahorses are in a hospital tank, so it was rocks, zoos, a dendrophyllia and a cleaner shrimp. I pulled everything out and picked off any fat bristleworms, as well as any razor caulerpa that continues to spread and annoy me.

Then I found one of these. Plucked it off while being angry I'd not seen it before. Then as I added stuff back into the tank, I found a larger one!!!!!!!! It too is down the drain.

These eat zoanthids, if you didn't know it. I'd not seen one in my tank in months, but the zoos have died off a little bit at a time. Looks like I found at least one of the reasons.

Beautiful pics. Nice!

But my damned dial-up connection slows me down. However, I was a able to make a cup o' noodles before the first page loaded with the pics.

Dang, I am gettin good @ that.

*thinks when the stupid comcast guy is gonna get here...*

Peace,

Nate

BTW Marc, I love Reefcast! You too Evan, nice job! Funny!

That is just creepy looking. Looks like something I need to step on. I'm glad you got them out. What are the chances of there being more in the tank? Are they some sort of crab? What kind?

I follow both this thread your reef thread. I would get 10x more work done if Reef Central was unavailable during business hours. ; )

It is a spider. According to Amy, they lay their eggs in the polyp of a zoanthid, so you have to work extra hard to keep these out of your system.

Glad you enjoyed the reefcast, Nate. Evan should have the next episode up soon.

I've never heard of aquatic spiders before Marc. Is it actually in the Arachnid family? Wow, you learn something new everyday. I thought it was some sort of Crustacean.

Nice pics.

Marc, I missed why you put the second horse in the hospital tank? Is it sick too? How is caasper doing now?

I just love how you find all of these unusual creatures in your tank. Did you post that pic on your ID page?

Casper is swimming and eating, but has lost a significant amount of her tail. I was advised to put the other horse in the hospital tank as well, to rule out any possible disease it may be carrying.

Yes, the spider is on the ID page, on Page 2 I think.

Mark, pretty cute, but several things I have noticed, one you have nothing for the seahorse to hitch to.
He will be stung by the zoos if he has nothing.
Add a piece of upright coral or sea fan for him to hitch to.
Also someone mentioned about the depth of the tank.
He needs to have deep water to keep from getting the airsac problem(cant for the life of me remember the exact name and I used to raise horses:)) and start floating on the top of the tank.

I also think I see an aiptasia behind the beaker in the pictures? It is on a rock.
He will hurt your horse also.
My suggestion would be to take the horse out and set him up in a tall tank so that he can go deap to stabalize the air inside.

Thanks for the input. The horses are out of the tank being treated for vibrio at this time. (Thread in the seahorse forum) Air hasn't been a problem, even when she snicks at the surface.

I'm planning to make a larger tank in the near future. Casper hitches to zoas, rock, the pump cord, the heater cord, the thermometer, the intake to the HOB filter... no problems there.

Aiptasia hunting is my life. I'm always trying to kill them.
