Well I've never had a thread of my own so I figured I'd start one
.
I got into reefing almost a year ago and started with a 40 gallon FOWLR that turned into a Reef shortly after. However with college, work, and a girlfriend, my time allotted for upkeep was limited and I was forced to downgrade to a 29. Still having trouble keeping up with my supplements, water changes, algae scraping, joe's juicing, and feeding I was forced to downgrade to a 15 with a 5 gallon HOB refugium. Although this tank was running great, living at college forces me to move my tank almost every 3-5 months! So I decided to downgrade once more to my current 3 gallon.
I seeded the tank with approx. 3# of live rock and made a SSB from my 15 gallon. I used 50% new water and 50% cycled water from my current setup.
After a couple of days of monitoring the water, I added about 2 more pounds of live rock, some corals( 2 different types of zoas, frogspawn, a toadstool, and a piece of flordia recordia), and 1 hermit and 1 astrea.
Also with the stock filter I noticed the flow was insufficient for any the of the LPS I planned on putting in the tank so today I'm going to go to my LFS and get their smallest filter they carry to help add more flow and create a place for my heater to go.
In the near future I'm going to select my other livestock for the tank. I was thinking a green banded goby or neon goby if I chose to kept fish. Most likely I'll end up just getting a pistol shrimp as I've always enjoyed watching them make their homes.
Any questions, suggestions, or constructive criticism is welcome.
Also if anyone has some fun ideas for livestock or corals I'd really appreciate it.
