My 400g room divider system (photo essay)

Greg, great thread and great fish. Can you give us more on how youre able to catch a fish in the wild and bring it home to your reef? ie - are there laws that regulate that sort of thing?

either way it sounds like the perfect way to collect livestock if youre an expert.

Gorgeous tank, I can't wait to see the inside finished. I'm not a big fan of french angels but I do like that one, probably the nicest one I've seen.

There are laws. For that particular fish in the area I caught it you need only a Florida state saltwater fishing license, which I have.

I don't recommend catching your own fish as a general rule. Especially if you have a long travel in front of you. I am lucky enough to be able to dive with professional collectors that have decades of experience and the right tools to catch the fish without damaging it. This fish was net caught with almost no difficulty at all. My swimming with it for so long before trying to catch it probably had something to do with that.

By the time you add up all the costs of the trip, boat, equipment, etc this fish probably cost me 10 times as much as a fish you'd buy in the LFS.

Luck has been a large part of the 0% mortality rate as well.

I agree. That blue face and the streaming fins were just to much for me to resist. :D

Thats great. Never knew that. Even with the costs I think its the best way to do it, if you have the ability, location, etc.

thanks!

Those angels get huge, do you think it will out grow the tank eventually? And if so could it be returned to the ocean after being in a tank?
Also, Do you think he would have been so friendly if he knew what was gonig to happen? :)

I don't think it will outgrow the tank, but it might. I plan on keeping the tank lightly stocked. Maybe adding only a couple more very small (less than 3") fish. He will likely only get another 4 inches, so he'll probably be ok.

I wouldn't return him to the ocean due to the possibility of introducing non-native diseases, etc.

He's still very friendly to me and swims around the tank following me around...

Here's a couple shots of the new guy from today:

that is crazy gregt. i can't believe you just caught him off the reef and put him in the tank. i guess that is because i've never touched the ocean :( :( YET! someday.

Greg,

I'm in the process of building a new 250g and had a question about your overflow that I don't think was asked earlier in the thread. And that is, Why no teeth? And how did you hold up the egg crate? I think it looks like some glued on glass strips just below the inside of the box. Is that correct? How has that worked for you? Because now on my current tank I find myself regularly cleaning the teeth openings since they keep getting clogged with algea growth. Thanks,

Jon...........
