So... I guess I have enough stuff to start the thread.

My Goal:

I want to have a tank featuring clowns and Nems. For corals LPS maybe an SPS or two down the road.

What I have:

40g Breeder
40g Breeder Stand (Black Pine)
Vortech MP40w
Euro Reef RS80 skimmer
Overflow box by Melve (Marc)
Ice Cap 3000 Ballast
Mag 5 return pump
150w Heater titanium
Test kits

What I don't have:

40g Breeder Hood
2x T5 end caps (set)
2x T5 reflector
2x T5 bulb attinic
150w MH pendent
Sump
1" bulk head
2x 3/4" bulk head
1" PVC drain plumbing
3/4" PVC return plumbing
Sand
dry / live rock
2x 3/4 lockline

I think that about covers it.

I would like to thank Sean for drilling my tank. Great job =)

Tank placement will be in my office. Might need to knock out a shelf that is built onto the wall.

That is all I can think of for now.

My tank is a 40 breeder. This is it's second run at saltwater. I really like the size of this tank, not too big and not a nano. It fits perfectly in my living room. nice piece of furniture if ya ask me. Oak stand and canopy. I have icecap 660 w/ 4 39w HO T5s on a timer. I'm also running...gasp (easy people) skimmer less and sump less. I do have a surface skimmer piped to my hob filter running carbon and poly filter. I have a bunch of chaeto behind my rocks to help keep things under control. So far everything is going well and my water has stabilized. It has only been up for around 5 weeks. I change 5 gal every week and add around 1/2 gal top off daily. I currently don't add anything , but will be using Kent tech 2 part, Kent tech m. I recently acquired some frags from DonDon1 and have 2 damsels, several dwarf blue legs, various snails, 1 micro brittle star, and 1 pep. shrimp. Your off to a nice start and good luck on your build ;)

Thanks Sean... I might just need your help =)

Ok some pictures to go with this update... I woke up this morning to the transformer going nuts outside my house and all my electronics beeping as the power is going on and off and on and off... so I unplug the expensive stuff and then all the power goes out for good...

So... what a good day for some home improvement =)

As you can see the shelf on the wall would not allow for a hood on the tank...

So it had to go... Also pictured you'll see I got the bulk heads installed.

The worlds worst patch job...

and now I wait for everything to dry... as much as I love white walls... not... I've decided to paint as well. So I went to Home Depot and bought some paint... I'm sure I'm in over my head at this point but what the heck =)

Here are some pictures of Sean getting the holes dialed in on my tank... awesome job =)

Looking good, man! I had the same power issues this morning although mine never went out for more than a minute.
I may have some left-over live rock you can have for free. I am in the middle of setting up my new 200. Should start putting rock in sometime this week. I am using rock from my old 70 and 120 which has been running in two Rubbermaid trash cans with canister filters. Once I get the aquascape done, I'll shoot you a PM if there is any left.

sponge sand them, it cuts down on the dust alot. just make sure you dont press to hard or will take off more than you need to.

lol... no no no.... the tank was relocated to the living room before the drywall repair even started. The walls were sanded last night. My folks are stoping over tonight te check the work and give me the go no go for painting. If I get the green light I'll be starting with primer on the base boards and tank wall. I'm sure that will be more then enough work for one night.

Anyone have an opinon on buying a hood ver building a hood? I've never had a hood on a tank before... I need to be able to mount my light setup inside of it and I need to be able to get in to access the tank for coral placement ect...

Most all of the canopies that you will find should be ok for T5's. If you ever think that you may switch to halides down the road, you would probably need to build or custom order something a little taller than the factory canopy.

Well I'm disappointed.... =( My parents came over tonight and of what I've done so far I had 0 things correct =( /sigh

I made my list of PVC parts... I'm thinking about making a trip down to savko to get some of their black PVC. Would give me a chance to stop in at Phishy...

4x 3/4 90 elbow
1x 3/4 T
1x 3/4 45 elbow
1x 3/4 coupler
2x 3/4 threaded to slip connection
1x 1" T
1x 1" 45 elbow
1x 1" coupler
1x 1" valve
1x 1" threaded to slip connection
1x 1" End cap
6 feet of 3/4 (just to be safe)
4 feet of 1"

The room will be painted this weekend =) Woo!

Picked up a 20g long for my sump on Saturday (Thank K-ROK), need to get some glass for the baffles next.

Anyone have thoughts on what kind of rock is best for BTA? I was looking at Marcorocks.com Florida rock. But is Tonga rock better for Nems?

I like the florida for the 45lbs for $40 deal. I could then pickup like 10lbs of cured rock from Salty and be done.

I guess I'm putting the cart in front of the horse though... Need to figure out the hood / lights first....
