My 5.5g nano

Just wanted to share some pictures of my 5.5 gallon all-in-one nano which has been up and running for about 4 months. I decided to do a foam rock wall which I think it turned out great. It allows for much more space to add corals.

Thanks! For lighting I have a single 32watt PC 50/50 bulb and for filtration its basically the LR and LS. I have a minijet pump inside a DIY overflow chamber behind the rock wall to provide flow. I originally had 2 pumps but it was just too much flow so I have only been using 1. I have 2 small fans in the canopy that keep the tank cool and a small heater in the overflow. I also added 2 float switches in the chamber to keep up with evaporation and keep the tank as stable as possible.

As far as the rockwall, there is a thread somewhere in the DIY forum about how to make it step by step. I started out with eggcrate (the stuff used to diffuse lighting). I placed small pieces of dried LR on the surface then covered the remaining eggcrate with pond foam and tried to make it as natural looking as possible. Then I covered all the foam with 2 part epoxy and a mix of LS with some crushed coral. Let it set for a week or so before I setup the tank. I added a few pieces of coralline encrusted LR and within time the rock wall had become alive. I was actually surprised how fast the wall turned from bright white to a more natural looking chunk of LR.

geez those pics had me drueling. I can't believe you have a captain america. your tank looks like world wide corals.

After not knowing what a captain america was, and wondering for a while why its named that way when it looks nothing to do with anything captain america and then seeing the price...

I salute your cajones for stuffing that little tank full of pricey goodness. I really like the background you made the best though, lol. I saw another person setting up a big tank and he's doing something similar with the background. I've been wanting to find out what they look like after a year or two though, will it be completely coralline encrusted or resemble rockwork still?

Best of luck with that clam, hopefully he'll outgrow the baby tank soon!

Thanks. Most of the corals, primarily the zoas, came from wwc. Others from numerous local stores and hobbyists.

The clam was added about a month after I set it up back in october and is doing great, despite PC lighting. The rockwall is awesome. Eventually it will completely covered in zoas! Right now I have a big glob of epoxy in one section in which I am smothering out my bryopsis problem. Tried raising the mag up to 1650 for a couple weeks with no luck. This method appears to be working. Been a week since I epoxied it and shows no signs of mutating and breaking through lol. Im going to give it another week then pry off the epoxy. Hopefully that will do it.

Yes, I built an auto-top off with 2 miniature float switches (one for backup in case the other fails) which is controlled by a RK2 so it only turns on for one minute every four hours which will help minimize the damages if both floats get stuck.
