My 5 gallon Ecoxotic Ecopico build

Yeah, the acans vary throughout the tank. They are the happiest corals in the tank, aside from the favias that seem to be taking over. I think my only problem is the zoas/palys stretching. I think I might also upgrade to a couple of nano koralias though, it seems like it could use more flow, maybe if the zoas and palys got whipped around by the flow a bit, that might keep them shorter too?

Your Zs and Ps look good in the photos you posted...

Patrick, they are the same type of strips that come with the ecopico out of the box, just more of them. Im running 2 additional strips that are all blue. I emailed the manufacturer, and they told me that each LED is a 1w, so Im running a total of 15w of LEDs, 9 blues and 6 white.
Cnseek, they LOOK good, but the orange ones have not grown a single one in the 5 months Ive had them, and the pink palys are really stretching. You can see how long the stalks are in the first pic. The rastas at the top seem to be doing well, with minimal stretching tho, and they do sprout a new polyp like once every 3 weeks. Ive just seen Z+Ps blow up in my tanks before, so I know something is up.

Nemus, thanks for the response!

I am in the process of planning a Nano reef, and am trying to cover all options with LED lighting.

Nemus been out of the hobby for a while. I have kepts many Nanos in the past. How is your Evap rate? I had to get a ato for the last one but wouldn't want to get another one. Is there a stock lid that came with it to reduce it? The tank looks sick and is making me want get back in lol. What was your total cost on the tank, additional accessories, and extra lighting if you don't mind me asking. I am wondering if I can afford it.

Ryan

Ryan,

Nemus might be upgrading soon, so maybe he can sell you his current setup if you like the nano size? Ill let him fill you guys in on a more recent development.

Bulldog, The tank new was like $150 shipped, and I spent another $70 on lighting to get the extra 2 strips. I used a heater and pump I had before, maybe another $30 each.

What Jose is referring to is that I was given a couple of PAR38 bulbs by Ecoxotic. I tweeted them a picture of the tank, and I guess it became pretty popular on their sites. Im planning on upgrading to something like a 25 cube, or maybe a 20 long.

I was comparing one par38 bulb to the 5 strip setup on my Ecopico, and I think the 5 strips not only have a better color, but are also brighter. Those little strip lights actually work really well.

Yeah lmk on urban tank. I have a BC 29 with an upgraded led system mod into the hood. A combo on nanotubes and reefledlights. I also have the CPR SR3 skimmer if urban interested.

What type of led are you using??

What type of led are you using??

Hello bro..

I like to congrats you for your tank is really amazing,
You know i have a couple months in the saltwater hobby and for now i have a 5 gallons fluval chi , and i saw the pics of yours and looks great i'll like to ask what type of light are you using because i saw than is really bright ..
In my aquarium i have a led ecoxotic arm with 6 12k whites and 3 453nm blues . Looks good but not like yours ..

Any tip than you could share with me is very welcome..

Thank you and have a great day

Im using the LED arm that came with the ecopico, but with added light strips. There are 5 strips, for a total of 15 LEDs, 9 blue and 6 white. I recently added an Ecopico PAR38 LED bulb to supplement as well.

wow great job, the corals in my 27g dont even look that great. did i miss if your dosing ? water changes ? salt mix ?

Pnavarro- I dont really do any dosing. I change between 1.5 and 2 gallons of water every week with Instant Ocean salt mix. I also keep a bottle of water where i put a small amount of kalk powder in, and shake it up. Once the water turns clear, i'll add about 5ml of that into the tank twice a day. Its been working, so I'll keep doing it. I think that just the water changes would be enough, however.

Benny- thank you very much! I tried to vary the colors a bit while not spending too much haha.

I couldnt find anything with a decent gooseneck that would hold up the weight of the lamp and cost less than $50, so I bought an $9 desk lamp from IKEA and stuck the bulb in there. The corals seem to be responding pretty well to the stronger light. Ive only had it running for a little over a week, so time will tell. I'll try to take pics soon, Ive been getting requests for them via PM.

So I assume that you replaced the LED strips entirely with the PAR bulb? Or are you using both?

Right now I am using both. Im mostly using the blue LED strips only with the PAR bulb, but from time to time I do use all 5 strips. Mostly for taking pictures though.
