Hi Easttuth ..I use Four DC 10500 pumps . One for each header/returning to top front & top back of DT .. SO two pumps to DT. Third pump to skimmer and fourth to refuge /frag/ to Kalk/ CR and GFO. Each pump is 10500lph and if I remember right that converts to about 2750 GPH.. Can control each pump with six different settings.. I would not do less. AND do not need more because I have four MP60s for internal circulation as well. Would have definitely preferred a design with a larger sump that can manage the returns to eliminate bubbles I am experiencing in the DT and also to decrease the potential for overflowing in case of a power failure.. If I ran my system with pumps at full capacity like I prefer to do and actually am doing ...then in case of power failure I will have flooding and upon power return maybe a pump starving for water, if I am not around NOT GOOD DESIGN

Yes Greg Filter socks do reduce the bubbles and I use them when it gets annoying watching bubbles. I am not a fan of socks and never used them before in my 20 yrs reefing and several successful tanks. Prefer the system to balance itself without socks. Design should be such than return slows down over several baffles to eliminate bubbles. Matt J has some ideas he will try to fix but he is so busy.. We have been at this built for over a year when it was supposed to be three four months... I love the end result few serious hick-ups to overcome and hoping Matt will resolve shortly... I'm not sure that I understand what you're referring to, as far as the return design "slows down over several baffles"... I would think that the return pump controls the flow, as well as size of sump.
You could also try a sock over the return pumps intake to remove bubbles.

I mean Albano, IMO a proper sump design has to be long enough for the returned water to travel from one end of the sump over multiple overflow divider to slow the flow velocity and let all the bubbles escape before reaching the other end of the sump where the return pumps and skimmer may be located. About a sock over the return pumps intake I will not do as it could starve the pump if it gets clogged and at least impact the volume of flow back into the tank.Socks do work in decreasing the bubbles significantly but should not be needed in a properly designed sump... I am managing for now till Matt Jensen comes over and apply a fix he thinks will work. I will report here on the fix oce accomplished...

Ideas on keeping storage tanks' water stored clean
I have two RODI water storage tanks that I use to store RO water in one and salt water in the other. I usually will use the saltwater within 48 hrs of storing it. For the second time now the salt water tank bottom few inches that does not get pumped up to DT is turning blackish and definitely needs to be cleaned. Very hard to empty those few inches ( no drain on the very bottom but on the side/bottom). I will get it clean somehow while struggling with a bad back... BUT what can I do to keep this water bottom few inches from turning on me and become a waste that needs cleaning in the future. Your ideas are appreciated and many thanks.

Answering my own post and seeking comments pls::: I think I need a power head OR an air stone or both.. I would also like to have a new drain on the bottom of the tank so I can easily drain the bottom four inches of water instead of now I have to soak it into towels and then wipe the surface with vinegar several times. It takes forever with my bad back. I think if it can be drained completely and I keep the lid off I can reduce my labor.. Any thoughts please on what I am saying here THANKS

Thanks Tasso. I think I need to keep an air stone/pump for the salt tank to keep the bottom few inches with salt from getting crappy... I will need help when I decide to have a hole thru the tank support and place a new drain at the bottom center of each of the two tanks as to drain then completely. Maybe Matt Jensen will do it for me . I have to see as he has been busy with other newer customer and am being ignored lately...
Anytime U and ur neighbors could make it maybe on a weekend Marion will have coffee and bagels (I hope ) for us and we can chat and we get to meet our neighbors in AH.. Thanks Tasso... Let me know when ... We prefer early mornings say 9 or so as our kids could visit usually no earlier than 11

I would drop a small submersible pump down there to keep the water at the bottom churning at all times. I would not bother with just a powerhead but use a regular pump (no head required, obviously). You would probably have to replace the power cord for something long enough to reach the bottom safely.
If your method of use involves completely draining the entire tank you might want to consider getting a pressure washer to blast the bottom of the tank without over exerting yourself. A shot of CLR or similar wouldn't hurt, either, but be sure to rinse very well.

Thanks Dave I need a pressure washer to clean the tank and if I leave a bit more water I can have it circulated with the main external pump . It has a return with a 90 degrees that extends very close to the bottom Used to circulate the water when I add salt to a water filled tank I just do not like to keep a strong pump running continuously
