My 54G Mixed Reef (pic intense)

I would just use one. If you put one on each side they wouldn't move at the exact same speed. Plus it would cost twice as much! A shock on one side and the actuator on the other should work great, Ofcourse the trick to that would be to get a shock that is rated to for about half the weight of the canopy. Just has to be close. The tracks will keep the canopy from racking. Mine are .4-.7 per second. 1"/sec would work though.

lol Remote Control all the way.. I love mine.. I had the 92 on a Toggle switch for about a week. I like the remote alot better. :)

OK does this parts list sound like everything?

18" 150# actuator @.7"/sec
Mounting Brackets
Momentary Rocker Switch (may upgrade later, trying to save some $ now :( )
4 amp Power adapter

You mentioned something before about going with a smaller (cheaper) power supply at Radio Shack?
Also I am going to try it without the shock as they only have ones rated for 100#. If I need it I can always go raid my father in laws junkyard at his shop and find a old hatchback shock. Is there anything else I need to order?
Thanks again for coming to the rescue 8Ball_99 :D .

Looks good. But yeah no reason to spend 65 bucks on there Power supply.. a 1000 or 1500 mA 12V transformer from radio shack will work. They run about 25 bucks. The actuator wont pull anywhere near 4amps inless you max it out. NP HTH

Tonights progress.

Found out the actuators take until next friday to get here :(. I guess that means I will be sanding on my day off instead of doing the fun stuff.

Looks awsome...Great work!

Thanks, it's getting there. I really wish I would have known I was going to do the actuator from the start. It is TIGHT working conditions getting this installed and trying not to drop screws and crap in the tank  .

Fed-ex came today :)

Don't comment on my welding please

And of course a link to a short video of it in action....

1 minute of action :)

Looks great, I told you it wasn't to hard to do it.. I spent 10 times the amount of time building my canopy compared to installing the lift. And dont worry about your welding.. Its better then mine, If I would have done it there would be a couple of welding rods stuck to the brackets.lol. :rolleye1:

Where did you end up getting your 12v Transformer it doesn't look like the ones from radioshack..

Thanks guys, I am still trying to learn welding, I haven't done it in years, I really want to buy a small esab but, dang reef tank eats all my moola ......and yes the new lighting kicks some serious butt, thanks SunnyX :).

8Ball_99, the transformer on it now is just a old cell phone charger 500ma @12v. I have a 1amp radioshack transformer on the fan that cools my powercenter that I am just going to swap out.
I think I am going to post a linear actuator thread in the DIY forum would you post your stuff on that thread too? You helped alot and I know have some goodie-goodie pictures to share :).
I am in some serious need of wire organization before I do anything else lol. Between the new lighting/ballast etc, adding the seaswirl and the new transformer, some cooling fans, all the wires for just the Neptune......dang! It was all nice and neat 2 months ago :).
I think I am going to post a linear actuator thread in the DIY forum

First off, great thread! Been looking for plumming ideas and was wonder what piece did you use to connect your flare nozzle and ball socket tubing inside the tank to the bulkhead?
