My 54G Mixed Reef (pic intense)

Thanks Keith! Yep it is here and I have been taunting it and giving it stern warnings about shocking me. :) This weekend I am going to start on that little project and when complete will start a new thread in the DIY forum.

It is a pretty big skimmer. Good for what 350 gallons? When will/did you get it? Hows it running?

I have it, the body was broken in the mail so am waiting for a new body. I do have it running and it's pulling some nasty junk. HUGE improvement over the CSS. BTW I left you a reply on the Octo mods thread you might wanna check out.

This week I got in some Red Graciliara, Green Graciliara and Ulva from Florida Aqua Farms to add to the Fuge. Really cool looking.
I also picked up today a nice looking Frogspawn and Red Monti Cap.
I'll post some pics later tonight.

I would have loved to have gotten the nw200 but I don't have the space. The nw150 is great though. Man I gatta start staying away from these Octopus threads. I'm in about 10 of them 8'.

I caught your post. I bought a new body and will be using the pump and collection cup. If there is something useful to do with the body fill me in.

PICTURE TIME!

PICTURE TIME!

Temps around here been getting a little warm......like 99 or so. My central can only get the house down to about 78-80 when it's like this so it was time for some cooling fans. I built a shelf and put 2 of them behing the tank. Went from 83 to 80.5 in about a hour. I now have them set on the aquacontroller to go on at 81 and off at 80. The heater is set to go on at 79 and off at 79.5.

I think I finally am happy with the aquascaping. I took the big rock that was on the left and tilted it back and shoved it into the back corner. This gives me ALOT more room as far as coral placement goes. I took one rock I had in back and made it a pillar. I plan to put all of my zoas on this rock.

Curved left and right shots never come out good but, here ya go....

All water params are looking good....

Temp: 80.5
Ph: 8.0 (just fired up the Ca reactor)
Alk: 3.89 meq/l
Ca: 420
PO4: .03ppm
No3: 5ppm
Mg: 1200
SG: 1.0255

Right now my alk consumption is around .3dkh/day. I set the reactor to 8bpm and 25ml/min. Hopefully this matches up and I can just slowly go up as I add more coral.
There is just a hint of cyno in the fuge. The water flow is pretty laminar in there so I plan to add a small powerhead (mj 400) facing the incoming current to mix it up a little. I think this will also help my macro's tumble a bit more. There was a little bit of diatom outbreak last week. I realized that my carbon was getting spent and clogged up (running inline as prefilter to the rowa reactor), so I changed it out and that with the new macros has made it vanish. Oh yea I was skimmerless for a bit as well, so that may have contributed........

Not skimmerless anymore :eek2: .

Nice! I like the aquascaping, It sort of looks like a little cove area in the middle there with some open sand.

How loud is that fan? I saw those at Home Depot the other day for about $12 and thought about buying one to try out. Are they quiet?

That is a monster skimmer! Nice to have all of that room for equipment. Trying to fit everything under my tank is a constant frustration...

The fan is very quiet. Two of them make less noise than the cooling fan inside my outer orbit fixture.
Yes I am very happy I decided remote equipment sump. It is 18" x 26" x 16" and even better is that it is at a height that doesn't require me to bend over to work on anything 28" off the floor, and has plenty of head room 31".

Well today I did the Gate valve mod to my octo, it took all of 5 minutes. I had to use a little vegtable oil to get the rubber boot to fit so it will probably be a few days before I see skimmate again. The level in the skimmer is much easier to adjust and no wet hands :D

One pic for now to prove that I have been steadily working to get the canopy/stand/built-in book shelf completed.....

Step one: Build a workshop :p

I do have no less than 9 more pictures to post tonight, stay tuned.....
